Pac-10 Week Five: Short and Sweet Previews
Week Four had Arizona State forgetting to bring their offense and losing to No. 3 Georgia 27-10.
Oregon was outplayed and embarrassed at home by a determined Boise State team, 37-32.
Arizona won 31-10 and exposed UCLA for what they are—mediocre.
Washington State got their first win over Portland State 48-9, and Stanford got back on the winning side, sliding by San Jose State 23-10.
Yours truly improved to 21-8 overall this season. The Pac-10 stays at .500 against non-conference foes (12-12).
Here's a quick look at the Pac-10 Week Five schedule.
No. 1 USC @ Oregon State: Thursday, 9:00 pm ET on ESPN
USC has made quick work of their first two opponents. OSU hopes for a repeat of 2006, but it won't happen. USC runs all over the Beavs and wins.
USC 37, OSU 21
No. 25 Fresno State @ UCLA: Saturday, 3:30 pm ET on ABC
UCLA's victory in Week One over Tennessee has proven to be a fluke after the Bruins lost badly the past two weeks. Fresno State needs a win against a BCS conference team to move them up in the polls and should shut down the Bruins in the Rose Bowl.
Fresno State 27, UCLA 13
Colorado State @ California: Saturday, 6:00 pm ET on CSN West
Colorado State has had iffy wins against lesser competition and got blown out by Colorado. California has an explosive offense, and Colorado State won't have the speed on defense to stop Jahvid Best.
California 42, Colorado State 20
Oregon @ Washington State: 6:15 pm ET on FSN Northwest
After losing to the Smurfs of Boise State, Oregon has the luxury of traveling to meet the Pac-10 doormat in Wazzu. Washington State had a confidence boost against Portland State, but back to earth, Cougar faithful—Oregon wins this handily.
Oregon 35, Washington State 17
Stanford @ Washington: 10:00 pm ET on FSN Northwest
Stanford snuck by San Jose State but needs to bring its A-game to Seattle. Washington is hungry for a win, and Jake Locker takes this team on his shoulders, knowing this is a winnable game. Washington is a different team at home. Washington in a rout!
Washington 38, Stanford 20
Only two non-conference matchups this week, and more than likely the Pac-10 will split, again remaining .500 on the year and losing to another WAC team.
