Fantasy Football: Start/ Sit Advice Around The League

Kevin RobertsSep 24, 2008

This isn't an article...yet. My e-mail will be at the disposal of any struggling fantasy owners out there. If you have any questions or concerns about your team, a possible waiver wire pick-up, or a looming trade, don't hesitate to frantically type it all down and send your worries my way.

I'll analyze both sides and send you in the right direction. Each week, I'll post 10 inquiries, and the following week I will accept e-mails either thanking for my advice, or crucifying me for it (five each). All, of course, with my response. This will make for a two-parter each week.

Good luck!

With that said, here are ten things to know headed into week 4 of the NFL season.

1. If you have one of the quarterbacks in the picture above, he should be starting, and there's a good chance your fantasy team has at least two wins.

2. Not only should Willie Parker not be in your line-up this week (knee) but neither should any other Steelers' running back. Unless you're situation is dire, don't risk playing a new guy against Baltimore's defense. Did you see what Philly did to the Steelers' line? Yeah, that could happen again.

3. Don't call it a comeback. If Jake Delhomme is on your team and you're even remotely unsure about your other quarterback, start Jakey-boy. He just got Steve Smith back, and you can be sure things will start spicing up in Carolina's air attack.

4. Be aware of Brian Westbrook's status all week, and don't waste your time on Cornell Buckhalter. He's decent, but won't be used as much as Westbrook would, even if he does start. Once again, only use him if your starters are guys like Kevin Smith and Ahman Green. Oh, and if no one has told you: Drop Ahman Green.

5. If you can afford to, stop starting Matt Cassel. Clearly, he has weapons, but he hasn't been effective. Even if all you have is Carson Palmer, Cassel should be sitting.

6. Don't assume their performances against Indianapolis were flukes. Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew are back in a big way. Start them at will, and even at the same time.

7. Be careful about starting Aaron Rodgers on the road against a good Tampa Bay defense. He has yet to throw an interception, and this is a boom-or-bust game. It could be ugly.

8. Keep your eyes on the quarterback situations in Houston and Cleveland. Neither situation is all that sexy, but you never know. The back-ups could be the answers for these teams.

9. Kick returns are awesome. If your league rewards points for return yards and scores, players like Darren Sproles, Jerious Norwood, and Leon Washington are triple threats. The guys are risky offensive starts to the naked eye, but are beasts in the return game, which vaults them with the elite running backs when it's all said and done.

10. If anyone hasn't told you yet, the Chargers and their offense is back to life. LT is still the man, and Monday night against the Jets showed you he can still score. All San Diego offensive players are playable, but be careful of their touches. Chris Chambers had his third touchdown in as many games, but had only one catch for a 27-yard score. These are things to consider.

Remember, contact me for questions and concerns, and I will address the ten most interesting/pressing issues in a column due on Fridays, ready in time for each week's games. The follow-up article of responses from fans and myself will come on Tuesdays, if this column eventually takes off. Again, good luck! (kevin.roberts@cuw.edu)
