Top Ten Quarterbacks In The NFL

Mike NguyenSep 20, 2008

The NFL is a quarterbacks league. Your team probably won't go far without a good quarterback. For example, the Vikes were a preseason favourite to win their division, but what is keeping them from being super bowl contenders? Tavaris Jackson. You can have the best running back(Peterson) best offensive line, best defensive line, and best run defence but they are 0-2 because their quarterback can't complete a pass even if the opponent has no defenders playing.

So here are the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL:

No.10: Jake Delhomme.

Jake Delhomme is a very good quarterback in the NFL. He is not great and doesn't put up Brady type numbers, but he is consistent and gives his team a chance to win the game everytime he suits up and goes under centre.

If this were a list of the top ten quarterbacks of all-time, then Brett would be higher on the list. But now even at the age of 38, Brett can still throw the ball with some heat, scramble, make something out of nothing, and still win games by himself. This guy is truly amazing.

Used to be known as Peyton's little bro, Eli Manning has showed the world that he can play and lead his team to the Lombardi Trophy. His playoff performance last year was unbelievable, and surprising at the same time. Nobody would've thought he was going to pull off a victory vs either Tampa or Dallas, let alone win in the frozen Tundra and then knock off the undefeated Patriots at that time.

Big Ben looked like he was going to be a star in his rookie season, helping the team finish with a 15-1 record. He followed that up with a Super Bowl win that shocked the world as he beat their rivals, the Bengals, the 14-2 Colts, the Broncos in the AFC championship and finally, the Seahawks. A motorcycle accident nearly cost him his life and during that season, his team missed the playoffs and he played horribly. He was able to rebound in 2007 and is currently one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.

A lot of people thought Drew was going to struggle in the NFL due to his height, (standing at only 5-11) but Drew Brees proved NFL analysts wrong, as he is becoming one of the best and most consistent quarterbacks in the NFL. Drew loves to throw the ball and is playing behind an offensive line that gave up the fewest sacks in 2007. Drew's arm accuracy is his best asset and with the weapons that surround him, who knows what this guy can do.

Drafted eleventh overall in the 2006 draft out of Vanderbilt, Jay Cutler was overshadowed by Vince Young and USC superstar and Heisman trophy winner, Matt Leinart. How things have changed. Cutler, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes has shown he was the best quarterback selected out of that draft. While Young is injured and Leinart has sucked, Jay has been doing nothing this season except for throwing touchdown passes. His strong arm has been a huge reason why he has been successful and it has helped guide the Broncos to a 2-0 record.

When McNabb was selected second overall in the 1999 draft, the Eagle fans showed how they felt about that pick. But McNabb has showed them wrong appearing in the Pro Bowl from 2001-2005, as well as leading them to the Super Bowl in 2004, but unfortunately lost to the Brady-led Pats. The year after was a mess with T.O, but McNabb has shown how good he can be this season without his top two receivers who aren't really that good anyways. The Eagles look like they are going to be a force this year and I predict McNabb will be the NFL's comeback player of the year.

No.3: Tony Romo

Mr.Hollywood has gone out with numerous hotties, most notably Carrie Underwood and Jessica "Jinx" Simpson. Whether it has been the vacation he took before last years game with the G-Men, or the dropped snap, the 0-2 record in the playoffs, and obviously his off the field personal life, Romo has been the centre of attention when it comes to quarterbacks. That is what you should expect when your the quarterback for Americas team. But on the field, he has put up great numbers and making the Pro Bowl twice, in only his third full year as a starter.

No matter what the score is, Peyton Manning will make sure his team will get a chance to win the ball game. He has led his team to many fourth quarter comebacks, including a second half comeback against the Pats in the AFC championship game which eventually led to his first Super Bowl win. He got rid of his reputation as a choker, someone who could never win the big game in the pros or college. But being a two-time MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and breaking the touchdown passing record in 2004 (which was broken by Brady last season) has made Manning a first-ballot Hall of Famer when he finally hangs 'em up. Oh yeah, he hasn't missed a game since he started playing in the NFL

No.1: Tom Brady

Brady is the obvious choice for being no.1 on this list because of what he has done since replacing Drew Bledsoe in 2001. He won a Super Bowl that year, then repeating in 2003-04, and was a Tyree catch away from winning his fourth ring. He was named MVP in the 2007 season after leading his team to a perfect 16-0 record that included him shattering the single season touchdown pass record. He and Randy Moss, along with Welker has shown the league they are the most dangerous offence in the NFL. All of that isn't too bad for a guy who has been selected in the sixth round in the 2000 draft. A torn ACL in the season opener ended his season, but he is still young and in his prime as he will return in 2009.
