Dallas Stars Training Camp Outlook: Full Roster and More
It's hockey season, everyone!
With the Dallas Stars' training camp beginning today, I decided I would do an in depth look at the listed roster on the Stars' website. This is probably as good a listing of the men at the camp as any other one.
I included all information one could need, including my own take of the prospect or player. Included at the bottom is also the expected depth chart for the Stars. Stay tuned for more Stars' information as it becomes available during training camp.

Training Camp Notes: As noted below, Sergei Zubov and Phillipe Boucher are likely to miss camp and an early part of the season due to injury.
Dallas Stars – Pre-Training Camp Roster
Forwards:
No. 16 Sean Avery – LW – NHL
Enforcer with a scoring spark acquired during the offseason, easily improves the team, as long as he remains happy.
No. 13 Krystopher Barch – RW – NHL
Saw time with the Stars late last season, I don’t see him not being part of the big squad again this season. Expectations in camp will be even higher for him now, though.
No. 70 Jamie Benn – LW
- Sensational play in prospect tournament has left many asking if Benn is capable of the big club. He has the goal scoring touch, but slow time for development might be what is best for proper development.
No. 96 Fabian Brunnstrom – LW – NHL
Lots of real talent, lots of hype, and lots of unanswered questions even after the prospect tournament. He still has the penciled spot on the third line; question is will he truly earn it?
No. 25 Chris Conner – RW – NHL
Appeared in 22 games scoring five points. I expect him to be a member of the big club like he was last season, but he will need to improve his game to have a regular spot.
No. 44 B.J. Crombeen – RW - NHL
Appeared in eight regular season and five playoff games last season. More games with the big club would help give a better perspective on his talent.
No. 21 Loui Eriksson – LW – NHL
Regular wing with Brad Richards at the end of the year, a full season with such a talented center will only make things even better. Playing with Avery on a line will possibly make more room for Eriksson’s great set of hands.
No. 61 Aaron Gagnon – C
Acquired as a free agent in February 2007. I don't have much information on this guy, sorry folks. Gagnon was drafted in 2004 in the 8th round by Phoenix.
No. 32 Sergei Korostin – RW
19-year old, 2007 3rd round draft choice, no information out there on this prospect yet.
No. 54 John Lammers – LW
Dallas’ 3rd round selection in the 2004 draft, no information on this prospect.
No. 26 Jere Lehtinen – RW – NHL
Provides veteran leadership on the forward line, Lehtinen is similar to other Finnish favorite, Teemu Selanne. Lehtinen will need to stay healthy for his numbers to resemble those of his younger days.
No. 34 Perttu Lindgren – C
21-year old thrid round choice in 2005. No information on this Finnish born prospect.
No. 39 Joel Lundqvist – C – NHL
Fourteen points in 55 games isn’t too bad, but with the team around him, those same numbers could easily improve.
No. 9 Mike Modano – C – “A” – NHL
Veteran leadership, will easily be the main influence on Fabian Brunnstrom.
No. 10 Brenden Morrow – LW – Captain – NHL
Leader, heart and soul of this Dallas team. He will again be the main to watch in Dallas. This year could be a break out year when Morrow’s numbers put him in the top of the league’s scoring.
No. 64 Alexander Naurov – LW
Dallas’ 4th round choice in 2003. At 23-years old this could be one of his last opportunity’s to show he belongs with the big club.
No. 29 Steve Ott – LW – NHL
With Ott, Avery, and Morrow the Stars are one of the most bruising teams in the NHL. Ott is an important part of the team and his influence will only increase this season.
No. 17 Toby Petersen – C – NHL
Projected to replace Stu Barnes in the lineup, a great veteran
No. 63 Mike Ribeiro – C – NHL
Not only the top center on the team, but among the best in the NHL. There’s a reason he is a first rounder among fantasy managers. He won’t disappoint this season.
No. 91 Brad Richards – C – NHL
Ribeiro and Modano are good centers, but add Richards to the mix and you have three of the best centers in the NHL. Will likely center the second line and a full season in Dallas will skyrocket his numbers.
No. 12 Raymond Sawada – RW
Prospect with high expectations, wouldn’t surprise me to make the big club for 20-some games.
No. 23 Tyler Shelast – RW
Played in prospect tournament, other then that there is no information on him.
No. 58 Francis Wathier – LW
Dallas’ sixth round choice in 2003. Played with Iowa last year an will likely again be in the AHL.
No. 22 Landon Wilson - RW
Acquired from Phoenix in exchange for future consideration on Feb. 22, 2004. Has been in the Stars organization for awhile floating around but still information is hard to come by. Wilson will likely in the AHL this season.
Defensemen:
No.43 Philippe Boucher – NHL
Part of the important veteran corps of defenseman the Stars have. Boucher is one of the most clutch D-men the Stars have. Injury problems for Boucher this year would mean more playing time for young blue-liners like Fistric.
No. 6 Trevor Daley – NHL
With a new contract behind him, Daley can focus on improving, and boosting his numbers.
No. 28 Mark Fistric – NHL
One of the youth members of the defense, his role will likely increase this year if injuries to veterans like Zubov occur.
No. 27 Maxime Fortunus
No information available on the prospect.
No. 2 Nicklas Grossman – NHL
With 62 games from last season under his belt, his influence on the blue line will only increase. Now he needs to try to find a scoring touch and he will be one of the best D-men the Stars have.
No. 4 Dan Jancevski
Acquired by Dallas from Tampa Bay in exchange for Junior Lessard in Jan. 2008. Not much information is available yet on Jancevski.
No. 5 Matt Niskanen – NHL
Learned his role from one of the best in Sergei Zubov, look for all of his statistics to improve this season.
No. 3 Stéphane Robidas – NHL
Robidas became a dangerous defenseman in the playoffs, if he can find that touch early on this season the Stars scoring from the blue line will be dangerous.
No. 37 Garrett Stafford
Acquired via free agency in July 2007, a 28-year old from Los Angeles, CA. Stafford will likely be placed in the AHL.
No. 55 Ivan Vishnevskiy
Defensive prospect with lots of attention coming out of the prospect tournament. Vishnevskiy is expected to be playing in the AHL this season.
No. 56 Sergei Zubov "A" – NHL
Out for four weeks, and may likely miss early section of season depending on length of recovery. Its better for this to be now, rather than half way through the year.
Goalies:
No. 33 Matt Climie
No information found on Climie
No. 31 Tobias Stephan – NHL
Young backup, only question is his capability if thrust into the role as the starter.
No. 35 Marty Turco – NHL
Playoff savior for the Stars with regular top marks in the regular season. Expect 35-40 wins, and fove shutouts.
