Chavez Jr. vs. Camacho Jr. in the Battle of the Bum Killers
If you ever thought of a hypothetical dream match-up of bum killers, those boxers who padded their records taking on bums, tomato cans and taxi drivers. This would be it, Chavez Jr. and Camacho Jr. both are former sons of legendary boxers and are middleweights.
Chavez Jr. has an impressive record of 42-0-1, 30 KO's. He most recently defeated with a five inch reach advantage the hard fighting, light punching Billy Lyell 22-9, four KO's. By unanimous decision, last Saturday night, in front of his booing hometown fans in Culiacan, Mexico that were hoping for a knockdown or knockout.
Chavez Jr's most recent claim to fame is retiring John Duddy (who some boxing fans felt was a bum killer, also) by defeating Duddy by unanimous decision last June on PPV.
Chavez Jr. started out his illustrious bum killing career by beating the likes of Sheldon Mosley 1-6, 2004, Leroy Newton 5-5, 2005, Ryan Maraldo 17-15-1, Johnathan Nelson 10-10, 2005, Shad Howard 12-8-3, 2006, Raul Munoz 19-10-1, 2007, very careful and extraordinary match making has gotten him to where he is today.
Oh I forgot to mention that a little help and influence from his old man and the WBC have worked wonders for his career. Recently the WBC stripped Sergio Martinez of his middleweight belt making Sebastian Zbik the new champion and Chavez Jr. (which is surprisingly ranked No. 1 by the WBC) his next opponent for the WBC middleweight title in the near future.
Camacho Jr. now thirty two years old is a veteran of taking on bums, tomato cans and taxi drivers. February 11, he is wisely taking on Juan Astorga 14-5-1, 9 KO's, which has a decent record, until you notice that in his five defeats, he has been knocked out.
Camacho Jr's impressive record of 52-4-1, 28 KO's has been against defeating the likes of Stanley Jones 3-15-2, 1997, Victor Baez 0-11, 1998, Mike Cooley 8-11-2, 1999 , Francisco Barra 12-16, 2005, Joshua Smith 17-35-1, 2007 and Sammy Sparkman 20-17-1, 2009.
I will give Camacho Jr. some credit he did take on a worthily opponent in David Lemieux in October of last year, losing in the first round by knockout.
I feel Chavez Jr. and Camacho Jr. should get it on, why not? We have seen stranger things happen in boxing. Their parents had legendary match-ups and it would be interesting to see who is the King of the Bum Killers.
