January Transfer Window Deadline Day: Top 10 Possible Deals
For those of you who hate transfer speculation, gossip and the general rumour mill that January brings, the good news is that this is the final day of the window and very soon all the talk will be hushed. The bad news is that over the course of the day the rumours will get stronger, reporters will be camped out at training grounds and stadiums across the country trying to sniff out the big stories of the day and all the hype will build up to the final hours and minutes of the January as teams reach panic stations.
One thing is for sure: deals will be made and players will be moved, but who are the biggest names that could potentially be changing teams in the next few hours of madness?
Here are the 10 highest profile players who could be on the move.
10. James Beattie
1 of 10
The former Southampton and Stoke striker has struggled since trading the EPL for Scotland and Rangers.
Now it appears Beattie could be on his way back to the Premier League with Blackpool said to be interested in taking the striker on loan for the remainder of the season to boost their limited attacking options.
9. Shaun Wright Phillips
2 of 10
Manchester City's out-of-favour winger is desperate to leave Eastlands to get back into playing first-team football.
Fulham are said to have suspended their interest in Wright-Phillips but Owen Coyle's Bolton are still said to be looking to take the winger away from Manchester.
However, with Adam Johnson now out for a prolonged period of time, Roberto Mancini may be more hesitant to let the Englishman depart.
8. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
3 of 10
The 17-year-old winger has risen to stardom in Southampton in a similar way that Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale have in the past.
If this latest protege can reach similar heights that his predecessors have, there will be a lengthy list of suitors queuing up to bring the teenager to their clubs.
Arsenal are favourites to secure Chamberlain's signature but the question remains as to whether it'll be in January or the summer.
7. Hugo Rodallega
4 of 10
Following Darren Bent's shock departure, Steve Bruce is reportedly desperate to find a replacement, especially with Danny Welbeck's injury and the fact that his loan is up at the end of the season.
Rodallega would fit in well behind Asamoah Gyan in Sunderland's striking pecking order.
6. Phil Neville
5 of 10
Everton's veteran captain could be on the way out of Everton if Harry Redknapp gets his wish. Tottenham have reportedly made an offer for Neville but David Moyes is desperate to keep hold of his main leader.
This seems an unlikely deal to happen but we'll have to wait and see
5. Niko Kranjcar
6 of 10
Kranjcar has struggled to secure first-team football with the phenomenal form of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van Der Vaart and has voiced his frustration with the lack of game time.
Harry Redknapp has also had something to say, sating that he'd like to keep hold of the Croatian, but a number of clubs have been linked with deadline moves for the midfielder.
Fulham are now reportedly out of the equation but Chelsea and Liverpool, who seem to be linked with just about every player in the league, are said to be weighing up bids for Kranjcar.
4. Scott Parker
7 of 10
West Ham took Tottenham's Robbie Keane on loan yesterday and Harry Redknapp may want to take Parker, a player he's been heavily linked with in the past, the other way to Tottenham.
Liverpool, once again, have also been linked and if their proposed move for Charlie Adam falls through, Parker would be a very capable second choice.
3. Charlie Adam
8 of 10
The Blackpool skipper is a wanted man; Liverpool and Aston Villa have both have bids rejected and now Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with the Scot.
Adam handed in a transfer request a couple of days ago and Ian Holloway is prepared to give up his most valuable asset if the fee is up to his requirements. This looks set to be a stare down to the finish with either side waiting to see who'll blink first and who'll be prepared to pay the most for Adam's services.
2. Andy Carroll
9 of 10
Newcastle's young front man has impressed this season, scoring goals at will before being held back by injuries.
Kenny Dalglish has lodged a huge £30m bid for Carroll to line up with Luis Suarez if Fernando Torres were to depart from Anfield.
Initial reports are that Liverpool's approach has been rejected, but if the reds get a big deal for Torres done, there may be room to raise the bid.
1. Fernando Torres
10 of 10
This story will inevitably dominant the final hours of the window, and rightly so. Chelsea need to make a move if their Premier League hopes are to remain intact and Roman Abramovich senses that players need bringing in.
Having been snubbed in their approaches for David Luiz and Sergio Aguero, the question is, how desperate are Chelsea for Torres?
With one hefty bid and one transfer request already rejected, Liverpool appear to be holding out to see if Chelsea are prepared to reach the magic £50m mark, the number they are apparently prepared to let Torres walk. If Chelsea aren't prepared to match Liverpool's demands, expect to see Torres back in a red shirt for the rest of the season.
