Transfer Window Deadline Day: 10 Crazy Predictions: Torres, Drogba, Rooney, Etc.
The January transfer window is drawing to a close, which means there are likely to be a few last minute moves. Most of them will have been rumoured, others will come as surprises, and maybe, just maybe, one deal or event will come out of nowhere and steal all the headlines.
With that being said, here's my list of 10 crazy deadline day predictions that, if any of them were to happen, would blow your mind.
If anything on this list actually happens, feel free to call me a genius!
Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney in Swap Deal
1 of 10
Fernando Torres recently handed in a transfer request, shortly after Chelsea submitted a bid for the striker.
Manchester United have been rumoured to be interested in Fernando Torres in the past, and although Fergie has said he will not be making any signings this month, I'm sure an exception could be made for El Nino.
It looked like Rooney was going to leave Old Trafford when he handed in his transfer request earlier this season, but the two parties seem to have settled their dispute. Fergie might still be bitter about the whole affair and Rooney may still want away.
What if the two were to swap clubs? United have wanted Torres in the past, and I'm sure Liverpool wouldn't mind having a striker of Rooney's calibre as a replacement. Yes, Rooney was an Everton player, but that didn't stop him moving to United and maybe if he was offered a juicy enough contract he would be prepared to try and revive Liverpool.
Best of all, neither side would have to spend any money.
Carlos Tevez and Didier Drogba in Swap Deal
2 of 10
Carlos Tevez handed in a transfer request amid reports that he was homesick and wanted to return to Argentina. The problem, whatever it was, seems to have been sorted, but Tevez is a player who has a habit of moving around a fair amount.
Didier Drogba, meanwhile, is said to be unhappy at Chelsea. His most likely destination, where he to actually move, would be Real Madrid, but a swap deal with Tevez would not be an impossibility.
Admittedly, both Chelsea and City like to spend money and this is a deal that might not require any cash at all which could reduce the possibility of it actually happening.
David Luiz to Manchester City
3 of 10
Chelsea look to have failed to sign 23 year-old central defender David Luiz and have turned their attention back to Gary Cahill. This could give Manchester City a chance to step in and sign the Brazilian. City have conceded the second fewest goals in the Premier League, but will still be looking to improve their defence as they look to continue the success they have experienced so far this season.
City certainly have the funds to sign Luiz and them coming out of nowhere to sign a long time Chelsea target is not out of the realms of possibility(think Robinho). It would also be more than slightly funny to see a team that in terms of financial management has followed Chelsea's lead steal a player from under their noses.
Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona
4 of 10
It is not a transfer window until Cesc Fabregas has been linked to Barcelona.
As everybody knows, Barcelona have long been after Fabregas and, one day, he would like to return to the club of his youth. Barcelona chased him all of last summer and will in all likelihood be after him this summer as well.
However, a massive offer on deadline day, shortly after Wenger bumps his head or gets a little drunk, could take Fabregas back to Spain and give Wenger, complete with concussion/hangover, enough time to buy a few new players before the window slams shut.
Andriy Shevchenko to Chelsea on Loan
5 of 10
Shevchenko did not experience a great deal of success while at Stamford Bridge a few years ago and might be interested in proving his doubters wrong. The 34 year-old is currently playing for Dynamo Kiev and would only be a short term signing.
The Ukrainian Premier League is on its winter break until 5th March, so a loan deal similar to the ones taken by MLS players such as David Beckham and Landon Donovan isn't out of the question.
Best of all, a loan deal for Shevchenko would not require nearly as much money as was needed to sign him in 2006.
Jose Mourinho Moves to Manchester United
6 of 10
Jose Mourinho is widely believed to be looking for a way out of Real Madrid in the not too distant future after becoming tired of the club's structure. Mourinho wants a return to the Premier League and has said he has no preference as to which club he takes over.
Although Mourinho has never stayed at the same club for a great deal of time, Manchester United might not want to risk the "Special One" taking over at Manchester City at the end of the season and staying put for 10 years, for example.
Although Sir Alex is showing no signs of slowing down, the Glazer's are hardly a sentimental bunch and a chance to sign a man widely tipped to be Fergie's eventual successor could be too good an opportunity to ignore.
Obviously this is not a deal that would have to happen on deadline day, but that is what would make it such a monumental deadline day move.
Dani Alves to Real Madrid
7 of 10
Dani Alves may or may not sign a new deal at Barcelona. If he doesn't, he is likely to move to a Premier League club such as Chelsea, Manchester United or Manchester City.
Sergio Ramos may be on his way out of the Bernabéu after falling out with Cristiano Ronaldo and experiencing difficulties agreeing a new contract. Again, it is likely that Ramos would head to one of the big Premier League clubs.
What if Alves was to replace Ramos at Real Madrid? Alves has experience in La Liga and is certainly good enough to replace Ramos. Alves has only been at Barcelona for a couple of seasons and has no deep loyalty to the club, so a move to Barca's biggest rivals is not out of the question.
Steven Gerrard To Real Madrid
8 of 10
The likely departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea could pretty much end any ambitions Liverpool have of qualifying for European football next season and could help push Steven Gerrard towards the exit door as well. Gerrard is obviously incredibly loyal to Liverpool, but a move away from the Premier League would allow him to compete at the top level without having to face his beloved Liverpool.
Real Madrid have been linked with Gerrard in the past, and Liverpool's current situation makes the sale of Gerrard highly unlikely, but more realistic, than ever.
David Beckham to Tottenham Hotspur on a Permenant Deal
9 of 10
Harry Redknapp put a great deal of effort into trying to sign David Beckham on loan. Unfortunately he failed, only managing to get Becks to train with the London side.
Beckham must realise that he has not got a great deal of time left if he wants to play for England again, so perhaps not returning to LA Galaxy after his time training with Spurs is up would be something the England superstar would be prepared to consider if it were to give him a chance to regain his place in the England squad.
Spurs have shown that they are capable of putting big money up for players, something they would have to do to win the services of the most famous footballer in the world.
Sergio Agureo to Real Madrid
10 of 10
Real Madrid are currently seven points behind league leaders Barcelona and are going to be hard pushed to overcome a side that is on a 15 game winning streak. Madrid recently added Emmanuel Adebayor to their ranks, but more goals are still needed.
Atlético Madrid's Sergio Aguero, therefore, meets the bill. Tottenham failed to land the striker with a £38 million bid, so Real Madrid would have to offer more, especially considering that the two clubs are rivals.
Aguero is more than capable of playing at top clubs, and may be thinking about a move given the lack of success Atlético has experienced in recent times.
