National Signing Day 2011: TCU Horned Frogs Primed for Big Recruiting Class
Gary Patterson has led the Texas Christian Horned Frogs to an unprecedented level of success the last two seasons, culminating in this season's perfect record and Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin. And now with TCU primed to jump from the Mountain West to the Automatic BCS Qualifier Big East, the sky is potentially the limit in Fort Worth.
But to build a great program you need great recruits. And with national signing day upon us this Wednesday, the Horned Frogs are primed to bring home a class that will give them a great chance of replicating their success in the future.
As of January 28, TCU has received commitments from 25 players. Coach Patterson and his staff have taken advantage of their talent-rich recruiting grounds in Texas and Louisiana and have gotten commitment from two four-star recruits and seventeen three-star recruits.
The class will be led by athlete LaDarius Brown from Waxahachie, Texas. Brown has shown an ability to play at wide receiver and defensive back and is listed by scouts at Rivals.com as the fourth best athlete in the country. Brown has great size and speed, and his lower body strength make him very hard to tackle. He should be primed to step up just in time for TCU to hit the Big East.
The Frogs' other big commitment, literally, is West Monroe, Louisiana defensive tackle Chuck Hunter. At 6'1" and 294 pounds, Hunter will need to add some size to dominate the line in college but should help anchor the TCU defense in the years to come.
In addition to these blue chip recruits, Coach Patterson has also secured commitments from several other highly sought after high schoolers. This includes athlete Brandon Carter, who had previously verbally commited to Oklahoma but switched the the Frogs for a chance to play wide receiver.
Perhaps the most intriguing signing is that of West Mesquite, Texas quarterback Trevone Boykin. Boykin is a dual-threat QB who is just as comfortable running the ball as passing. Last season during his senior year at West Mesquite, Boykin threw for just under 2,900 yards and rushed for 1,799. He combined for 58 passing and rushing touchdowns. He should be exciting to watch at the next level.
TCU is a program on the rise. With the 25 ranked overall recruiting class and tops among non-BCS conference schools, they should be fun to watch in the coming years.
