Floyd Mayweather Jr. Tries Hand In Movie Production, Is Boxing Retirement Next?
Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has joined rapper/actor 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) in launching Mayweather Productions, a movie production company owned by Mayweather along with Jackson and his business partner Randall Emmett.
The popular rapper and actor who owns Cheetah Vision Films together with Randall Emmett, has been seen filming on location in Mayweather's native Grand Rapids after they met and became friends a few years ago.
Mayweather and 50 Cents were at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah to promote the launching of Mayweather's production company.
Readily admitting that he won’t be rapping forever, 50 Cent announced that Cheetah Vision Films will have a film coming out in the summer.
Floyd Mayweather, also sharing the same tune that his boxing career won’t last forever, had a chance to talk about what they hoped to bring their audience.
"I look forward to being part of some really project that have artistic talent," rapper 50 Cent told the press.
At the Sundance interview Mayweather said, "We're going to do what we normally do: sit in a room and brainstorm and try to come up with new ideas ... you know, outside the box. Be creative and just work together and try to be positive. That's the main thing. It's about working hard, being positive and working together."
"I won’t be able to rap forever,” 50 Cent said during a press conference Saturday.
"And I won’t be able to box forever,” added Floyd Mayweather.
These quotes from 50 Cent and Mayweather indicate the two entertainment and sport celebrities may be considering career switches soon.
Mayweather, who is undefeated in 41 fights in his professional career, is rumored to be retiring from boxing with an unblemished record.
Although he has not ruled out the possibility of facing Manny Pacquiao, The Ring magazine's current pound-for-pound king, this year or next, his actions outside the ring indicate otherwise.
Mayweather's latest pronouncements validate the fact that he is indeed leaving the sport which made him a millionaire many times over.
