Is the Future Now for the Phins?

Kirshner SaintilSep 17, 2008

After Sunday's brutal loss to the Arizona Cardinals, is it time to start looking at the future of the Dolphins? With the defense getting destroyed by Kurt Warner and his (what seemed like) invincible weapons, the Dolphins' offense had all eyes on them.

We watched as the team's playcalling remained conservative as Arizona attacked. The dismal play of the offense continued, as Chad Pennington struggled and for the second week in the row didn't complete a pass play longer than 20 yards.

Now, the offensive struggles can't be placed on Pennington's shoulders. Once again, the Phins' run-game was transparent, with Brown and Williams combining for 53 rushing yards in total. Can this be true? Both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are at the Dolphins disposal, yet they have yet to break 100 yards combined.

Where can they turn for some big plays? The announcer said, during the game, that the receiving corps is young and inexperienced, but I don't feel as if that is a good enough excuse for not taking any shots down field.

Last time I checked, you have to be challenged to gain experience, so the Dolphins need to rip open the playbook and let these receivers go make plays.

The bright spot of the Dolphins' day was Chad Henne. He got the Phins their most positive yards throughout the game, and it wasn't until Henne was under center that we began to see the ball go to our former first-round pick Ted Ginn get a pass thrown his way.

If Sporano and his staff don't figure out how to get some points on the board sooner, they might be in murky water down in Miami. The schedule doesn't get good for the Dolphins either, playing two teams in the AFC that are considered powerhouses: the Patriots and the Chargers.

Even without Brady, the Pats are still a threat, and L.T. is still a Charger. They don't have a game that is suppose to be a "guaranteed win" until mid-November, when they meet the Raiders. I suggest they find the problem and fix whatever it is as quick as possible.

So, even though its only been two weeks into the new season, and two games into the Dolphins' "new beginning," is it too soon to start thinking about turning the offense over to the young boys that are considered the future?

In the next few weeks, we will get the answer. So let the waiting game begin.
