NBA Dunk Contest: DeMar DeRozan To Replace the Injured Brandon Jennings

Sachin AroraJan 20, 2011

DeMar DeRozan has shocked the whole league with electrifying dunks, and after he was robbed last year in the dunk contest losing by one percent to Nate Robinson. DeMar will have another chance this year.

With a cast that consists of Serge Ibaka, JaVale McGee, Blake Griffin, and now DeRozan replacing the injured Jennings, this years dunk contest seems to have gotten a bit more interesting.

No disrespect to Brandon Jennings, but have you ever seen the guy throw down a thunderous slam? DeRozan has had many spectacular dunks in his career, and has experience in dunk contests.

Jennings pulled out because of a fractured fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot, and this is the right move considering the guy just wants to get healthy and help out his team.

DeRozan said if Jennings wasn't able to participate, he'd be willing to replace him. Even though he felt disrespected that he wasn't asked in the first place.

Another note about DeRozan: he looks poised to enter the Rookie-Sophomore challenge this year after being snubbed last season. DeRozan said he was extremely disappointed that he wasn't selected last season, but he should be a no-brainer this season. He's fifth out of all sophomores in scoring, third in field goal percentage, and easily the best dunker out of the bunch.

Jennings dropping out may have made this years dunk contest a little bit more interesting. Having the opportunity to watch Griffin and DeRozan going at it should restore the dunk contest from past year's mediocrity.
