NBA All Star Game 2011: 10 Surprising One Hit Wonders Of The Past
Moving from dead eye jump shooters, to flash in the pan big men, to under appreciated mainstays, this collection of 10 NBA one hit wonders is sure to put you in the mood for this years All Star game, February 20th, in Los Angeles.
So sit back, relax, and get ready to say, "What ever happened to that guy?"
Starting with...
Reggie Lewis
1 of 10
Reggie Lewis appeared in the 1992 All Star game in Orlando, Florida.
That year Lewis was a true stat stuffer, averaging 20.8 PTS, 4.8 REB, 2.3 AST, 1.5 STL, while shooting .503% from the field. Impressive. More impressive if you consider he was the leading scorer on a Celtics team that consisted of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish.
Tragically, Lewis died the following year of sudden cardiac death.
Though I never got to see Reggie Lewis play, noting his stats, and the fact he only appeared in a single All Star game is a sad reminder that his overwhelming talent was gone too soon.
A.C. Green
2 of 10
From what could have been to what were they thinking?
A.C. Green not only snuck on to the Western conference team at the 1990 All Star game in Miami, Florida, he was a starter, beating out a Blake–Griffin–like rookie named David Robinson (24.3 PTS, 12.0 REB, 3.9 BLK), and Tom Chambers (27.2 PTS), for the starting Power Forward spot.
Green didn't score a single point, sitting for most of the game, rooting for his fellow Laker and game MVP, Magic Johnson.
Anthony Mason
3 of 10
Anthony Mason was 34 by the time he was selected for his first and only All Star game, held in Washington D.C. in 2001.
That year Mason averaged 16.1 PTS and 9.6 REB for the Miami Heat, grabbing a total of 36 double–doubles.
Mason was selected to the team as a replacement for the injured Alonzo Mourning.
The All Star game was a fitting end to the career of the former third round draft pick, who will be remembered as the one of the games craftier brutes.
Mason would retire two years after.
Wally Sczcerbiak
4 of 10
Maybe the sucker punch Wally Sczcerbiak took from Kevin Garnett the year before knocked some game into him. Because in 2002, Sczcerbiak brought "Wally's World" to the NBA.
Sczcerbiak upped his scoring by nearly 5 PTS, to an average of 18.7 PTS, to go with 4,8 REB, and 3.1 AST.
2002 might be the best year of an overall productive career from the former six overall draft pick.
Tyrone Hill
5 of 10
Tyrone Hill rebounded his way into the 1995 All Star game held in Phoenix.
Hill averaged a double–double that year, 13.8 PTS, and 10.9 REB, but tallied a total of only 38 out of the 70 games he played.
How? More often then not, Hill grabbed more rebounds (15 plus on 12 occasions) then scored points.
A proven formula to a long, if unspectacular, career.
Jamal Magloire
6 of 10
Playing for the Miami Heat, Jamal Magloire has only logged 44 minutes this season making it hard to remember his 2004 All Star game appearance.
For the New Orleans Hornets, in 2004, Magloire averaged 13.6 PTS, 10.3 REBS, and 1.2 BLKS.
Tom Gugliotta
7 of 10
If there were such a thing as fantasy basketball in 1997 (Was there such a thing as the Internet in 1997?), Tom Gugliotta would have been your teams best player.
Googs averaged 20.6 PTS, 8.7 REBS, 4.1 ASTS, and 1.5 STlS in 81 games.
But due to injuries, and the NBA lockout in 1998, Gugliotta never played that much again and his numbers were never the same.
But when healthy, the 6'10" forward could flat out ball.
Michael Redd
8 of 10
In 2004 Michael Redd averaged 21.7 PTS and 5.0 REBS for the Milwaukee Bucks, earning him a spot at the All Star game in Los Angeles.
In the years that followed Redd averaged 23.0 PTS, 25.4 PTS, 26.7 PTS, and 22.7 PTS, respectively, but has not made an All Star team since.
This year injury has sidelined the 30 year old former Buckeye for much of the season. He has only played in 18 games.
Let's hope Redd, and his sweet lefty stroke, can make a comeback.
Cedric Ceballos
9 of 10
The 1994-95 season was a good one for Cedric Ceballos. The forward was living large in Los Angeles, averaging 21.0 PTS, and 8.0 REBS, for the Lakers. Throughout the year he had a 50 point game, a 40 point game, and 11 30 plus point games.
Ceballos even recorded a rap song with Warren G.
To top it off, Ceballos made the All Star game in Phoenix, where he won the dunk contest.
His first and only All Star appearance.
Jeff Hornacek
10 of 10
Representing the Phoenix Suns in the 1992 All Star game, Jeff Hornacek dropped 11 points.
For the season he averaged 20.1 PTS, 5.0 REBS, 5.1 ASTS, 2.0 STLS and even recorded a triple–double.
Not bad for the 46th pick of the 1986 daft.
