NASCAR Sprint Cup 2011 Preview: Check Out All the New Paint

Vin GetzJun 7, 2018

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines...in 24 days.

In just over three weeks, the ritual begins anew: The Budweiser Shootout, Daytona Qualifying and the Daytona 500 (February 20), followed by a long season of tailgating, barbecuing, chasing, wrecking and victory lapping.

But before you start getting a grasp of the new scoring system and tallying up the points, take a look at all the new NASCAR Sprint Cup paint schemes in 2011.

This list features the rides that have changed their look in 2011, as well as any confirmed driver moves (i.e. drivers sporting new paint).  There are still a number of schemes yet to be revealed.  Those you will see here are the latest available.

Noted along the way are Rookie of the Year, Daytona 500 and Cup winners, and car ownership.

Jamie McMurray Widia Chevrolet Impala No. 1

1 of 24

Jamie McMurray had his most successful season in 2010, winning three races, including both the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400—joining Dale Jarrett and Jimmie Johnson as the only three drivers to do it in the same year—but again failed to make the The Chase.

He was the 2003 Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year.

In January 2011, McMurray signed a multi-year extension to race for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

This season, Widia joins McDonald's and Bass Pro Shops in sponsoring the No. 1 car.  Widia is "metalworking's oldest and most trusted brand."

Brad Keselowski Miller Lite Dodge Charger No. 2

2 of 24

Brad Keselowski will be taking over the No. 2 car from Kurt Busch for Penske Racing.

The paint scheme will be the same as Busch's last year.

Keselowski made his Sprint Cup debut in 2008.  He's got one win: the Aaron's 499 at Talladega in 2009.

Kasey Kahne Red Bull Toyota Camry No. 4

3 of 24

Popular Kasey Kahne moves from Richard Petty Racing's No. 9 car to the Red Bull Racing Team's No. 4.  In 2012, though, he'll be moving to Hendrick Motorsports to take over the No. 5 from Mark Martin.

Kahne has won 11 Cup races in his career and was the NASCAR Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year in 2004.  He made the Chase in 2006 and 2009.

This is the same paint scheme Scott Speed's No. 82 had in 2010.

Mark Martin Quaker State Chevrolet Impala No. 5

4 of 24

Mark Martin will mostly be riding the Hendrick Motorsports' GoDaddy.com No. 5 again this year, but Quaker State has hopped on to sponsor four Sprint Cup races.

Martin has come in second in the Cup series five times and has 40 wins to his credit.

He'll be 53 when replaced by Kasey Kahne in 2012, but don't count him out—he still plans on racing.

David Ragan UPS Ford Fusion No. 6

5 of 24

David Ragan's No. 6 UPS Ford got a slight makeover for 2011, brightening up the postal company's trademark brown with a streak of yellow.

Ragan has been a Roush Fenway driver since 2006 and is still looking for his first Cup win.

Marcos Ambrose Stanley Tools Ford Fusion No. 9

6 of 24

Australian Marcos Ambrose will take the wheel of the No. 9 Stanley Black and Decker Ford after signing a multi-year deal with Richard Petty Motorsports.

Ambrose made his Cup debut in 2008 and is searching for his first win.

Before joining NASCAR, Ambrose was the Australian V8 Supercar champion in 2003 and 2004, and was later voted the best V8 Supercar driver ever.

By the way, the No. 9 car will also sport DeWalt as the primary sponsor in a few races in 2011.

Denny Hamlin Fed Ex Express Toyota Camry No. 11

7 of 24

Last year's second-place finisher, Denny Hamlin, won the most races of any driver in 2010: eight.

All four of Hamlin's FedEx cars (Express, Freight, Ground and Office) will make an equal number of appearances in 2011 and have an updated, faster and meaner look highlighted by the white-hot sparks coming off the grill.  Nice.

In just five full years with Joe Gibbs Racing, Danny Hamlin has accumulated 16 wins, was the 2006 Rookie of the Year and has made the Chase every year.  Wow.  Look out for No. 11 in '11.

Tony Stewart Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala No. 14

8 of 24

Tony Stewart's new black and white Mobil 1 Chevy is looking sleek.  The synthetic motor oil is signed on for 11 races in 2011.

Smoke has made the Chase every year since its inception (2004) and was the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year in 1999.

He won it all for Joe Gibbs Racing in the classic No. 20 Home Depot in 2002 and 2005, but moved on to form Stewart Haas Racing in 2008, remaining loyal to Chevrolet after JGR moved to Toyota.

Michael Waltrip NAPA Toyota Camry No. 15

9 of 24

Michael Waltrip's last race behind the wheel will be this year's Daytona 500, the 10th anniversary of his first win there and the death of Dale Earnhardt.

Waltrip will be riding in the No. 15 NAPA car, the same number he drove on that terrible day.  It will be painted black in honor of the legend.

Greg Biffle 3M Ford Fusion No. 16

10 of 24

Following a major paint scheme trend in 2011, Greg Biffle's No. 16 3M Ford will be badder and blacker.

Biffle has made the Chase the last three years with Roush Fenway Racing.

In his best year, 2005, he finished second to Tony Stewart.

Matt Kenseth Crown Royal Ford Fusion No. 17

11 of 24

Greg Biffle's Roush Fenway teammate Matt Kenseth will get behind the wheel of the Crown Royal No. 17 Ford for the second year.

Kenseth's 2011 Fusion is not much different than last year's, but both the purple and black cars' detailings have become more "wavy."

In 2000, Matt Kenseth won Rookie of the Year.

In 2003, he was the last driver to win the Winston Cup.  He was in the classic DeWalt black and yellow Ford.

In 2009, he won the Daytona 500.

Kyle Busch Snickers Toyota Camry No. 18

12 of 24

Kyle Busch's Snickers ride goes blue in 2011.  He'll drive it in at least two races this season.

The younger Busch has won 15 races in the last three years for Joe Gibbs Racing.  He's made the Chase four of his six full seasons and missed the postseason by one spot in 2009.

In 2005, he was the Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year.

Joey Logano Home Depot Toyota Camry No. 20

13 of 24

A blast from the recent past.  The classic all-orange Home Depot No. 20 returns as a main scheme—in the hands of 2009 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year, Joey Logano.

In his two full years, Logano placed 20th and 16th.  Will he make the Chase this year for Joe Gibbs?

He's got one win: Loudon in 2009.

Kurt Busch Pennzoil Dodge Charger No. 22

14 of 24

Kurt Busch moves from Penske Racing's No. 2 car (now Brad Keselowski) to the No. 22.

Sponsor Pennzoil has found a new home with Busch and Penske after cutting ties with Childress and Kevin Harvick, and a slightly updated paint scheme, going with red flares off the headlights and along the sides.

Big brother Busch won it all for Roush in 2004.

Jeff Gordon Drive To End Hunger Chevrolet Impala No. 24

15 of 24

For the first time in Jeff Gordon's illustrious career, DuPont will not be the primary sponsor.  Instead, Drive to End Hunger, and this paint scheme, will grace the Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 for 22 races in 2011.  DtEH will also be the main sponsor in 2012 and 2013.

The DuPont car will still be around though, for at least 14 races in '11.

Gordon was the 1993 Rookie of the Year and has 378 top 10's, 82 wins and four championships: 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001.

He's won the Daytona 500 three times.

Paul Menard Peak Antifreeze Chevrolet Impala No. 27

16 of 24

Paul Menard splits from Richard Petty to sign up with Richard Childress Racing, where he'll be through 2013.  Sponsor Menard's, of course, jumps over too.

So does Peak Antifreeze, with a nice new hood.

Menard is still looking for his first Sprint Cup win.

Kevin Harvick Budweiser Chevrolet Impala No. 29

17 of 24

Oh yeah.  You have to love the all black Budweiser No. 29 with the red trim.

Kevin Harvick came on strong for Richard Childress Racing in 2010—finishing third, just 41 points behind champ Jimmie Johnson.

He's made the Chase two times before that and was the 2001 Rookie of the Year.  Surprisingly, though, Harvick only has 14 career victories—one of them the 2007 Daytona 500.

Clint Bowyer Wheaties Fuel Chevrolet Impala No. 33

18 of 24

The change is small, but Clint Bowyer's No. 33 Chevy looks a little cooler in 2011, thanks to shading in the word "FUEL," which was stark white last season.

He's got just four wins in five full years for Richard Childress Racing, but an impressive 79 top 10's too.

Ryan Newman U.S. Army Chevrolet Impala No. 39

19 of 24

Ryan Newman keeps the same sponsors as last year, including Tornados and Haas Automation.  The U.S. Army No. 39 is spruced up a bit this year with the camouflage higher above the wheels and back end.

After spending all of his career with Penske (mostly in the Alltel No. 12), Newman moved to Stewart Haas Racing in 2009.

He was the 2002 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year and won the Daytona 500 in 2008.

Martin Truex, Jr. NAPA Toyota Camry No. 56

20 of 24

Martin Truex, Jr. is rocking a sleeker No. 56 for Michael Waltrip Racing.  Check out those sweet gold flares coming off the front-bumper and along the sides.

Truex had a promising year in 2007, when he won his first and only race, and made the Chase (finishing 11th).  Since then, he has struggled.

Truex's father also drove the No. 56.

Steve Wallace 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry No. 77

21 of 24

Steve Wallace will make his rookie debut in the Sprint Cup series at Daytona, driving his father's (Rusty Wallace Racing) No. 77.  At this time, no other races are scheduled for the 23 year old.

Brian Vickers Red Bull Toyota Camry No. 83

22 of 24

Brian Vickers is looking to return full-time in 2011 after a medically-abbreviated 2010 season (blood clots were found in Vickers' legs and around his lungs).

His sweet Red Bull Racing No. 83 is decked out in all silver this year.

In 2009, Vickers made the Chase for the only time in his eight-year career.

Carl Edwards Scotts Ford Fusion No. 99

23 of 24

Carl Edwards' Scotts No. 99 Ford has a more streamlined appearance for 2011.

In six full seasons, Edwards has 18 wins and made the Chase all six times for either Roush or Roush Fenway Racing.
