Dunk Contest Video: Watch as Unknown Prospect Steals the Show
If you hadn't heard of Ike Nwamu before the annual Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass this weekend, you have now.
The largely unknown recruit going to Cleveland State absolutely destroyed in the dunk contest at the Hoophall Classic, eliciting remembrances of Vince Carter's classic 2000 Slam Dunk Contest performance.
Nwamu did several dunks that Carter did during the dunk contest, including between the legs and shoving his arm into the hoop.
From Wechester Country Day School in North Carolina, the 6'3'' senior competed with some of the top recruits in the nation and absolutely blew away the crowd, including former Boston Celtic and NBA Slam Dunk champ Dee Brown, who was in attendance.
Nwamu even outperformed Demetria Morant of Bishop Gorman High (Nev.), a favorite after winning the Les Schwab Classic dunk contest.
Of course, besides comparison Carter, Cleveland natives probably can't help but wonder if he's the next LeBron James, an Ohio native that became a star with the Cleveland Cavaliers, only to leave the city for the Miami Heat.
The Cavs have been waiting for their next homegrown star since.
Although declaring Nwamu even in the same realm based on a dunk contest is highly illogical, but you can't help but hope for it.
Nwamu hasn't even been rated on Rivals.com and probably hasn't been scouted extensively at all.
Well, until now.
He no doubt will be garnering some attention these days.
The guard left the gym in a state of shock.
Imagine going to a high school dunk contest and coming out of it with thoughts of Vince Carter.
Anyone who can do that has some serious hops and dunking skills.
