Worst Broadcast Teams in Sports
It is a debate that is always a hot topic around the dinner table if you have a sports oriented family.
Watching a sports game isn't all about just watching the game, It's also about getting the whole play-by-play experience and getting the experts analysis on the game.
But not everyone can be perfect in this profession. Often times, even some of the most well-known sports broadcast teams make unintentional errors that we can't help but to laugh at. In fact, some of these sports broadcast teams are just down right bad at what they do.
Lets take a look at the ten worst broadcast teams in sports today.
10. Doris Burke and Dave Pasch
1 of 10
They have done WNBA, NBA and college hoops together. But this current Big East college basketball crew is one of the worst in the business.
Doris Burke sounds like she is constantly fighting nasal congestion during her post-game interviews. Dave Pasch is decent, but he seems more fit to due radio then TV. He has been the radio voice for the Arizona Cardinals since 2002.
9. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman
2 of 10
This NFL on Fox crew is amongst the most boring and dull of all when in comes to sports broadcasting. Joe Buck's monotone voice makes one fall asleep during football games, especially when he and Troy Aikman are doing the Thanksgiving game and you've just finished eating a full plate of turkey and mashed potatoes.
Aikman is completely unprofessional, unable to hide his obvious love for his former team, the Dallas Cowboys,
Perhaps the saddest thing of all is that of the three Cowboy greats of the 90's, Aikman might be the best of them. Both Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith were nightmares as announcers.
8. Ron Franklin and Ed Cunningham
3 of 10These two worked for ESPN and did ABC regional telecasts for college football games.
Key word here being "worked," as Ron Franklin was fired this past month after making sexist comments and then calling sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards an 'a--hole' during a meeting. He was removed from the Fiesta Bowl coverage, a victory in itself to anyone who was planing on watching the game.
This video shows exactly the lack of knowledge Franklin and Ed Cunningham brought to the table when they were paired to do a game together.
7. Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg
4 of 10
This CBS college hoops duo is the most boring of all of them. Neither of them have much creativity or originality. It seems like they are just speaking to each other rather then entertaining the audience watching the game.
Raftery, Lundquist, Johnson, Elmore, Bilas and Enberg all top this duo on the list of college basketball announcing teams.
6. Matt Millen, Sean McDonough, Holly Rowe
5 of 10
All three of these sportscasters are below average.
Sean McDonough's approach is very dry and not appealing by any means to a younger audience. Holly Rowe is a descent sideline reporter, but her choice of questions she asks are sometimes, well, questionable. Matt Millen is the worst of the three. He appears to have a lack of knowledge in topics that he should be ax expert on being a former NFL player and General Manager. He had multiple memorable screw ups in his first year on the job, yet he continues to get important broadcasting gigs.
Millen is bad enough, but when you team him up with all three, beware.
5. ESPN First Take Team
6 of 10No they do not announce games. But they are a panel that puts together a sports talk program that is nearly unbearable to watch.
The show is hosted by Dana Jacobson and Jay Crawford, both of whom came over from Cold Pizza. The regular sports guest on the show, Skip Bayless, is the worst sports personality in sports media today. He is arrogant, unrealistic, and consistently makes some of the most outlandish remarks in sports.
Some people still can't figure out to this day if he actually believes some of the garbage that comes out of his mouth. Whether he does or not, stay clear of this crew.
4. Pam Ward and Danny Kanell
7 of 10
That guy that you hear on Saturday afternoons announcing those awful football games and mispronouncing names left and right, yeah, that's actually Pam Ward. She very well could be the worst sportscaster in all of sports.
Fortunately, ESPN must have agreed somewhat with me—They moved Ward and her new color commentator, former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell, to ESPNU's afternoon game. Now, instead of having to watch her announce a good college football game, she will be the one bringing you the annual Vanderbilt vs. Kentucky college football game...if she's lucky enough to get that.
3. Joe Morgan and John Miller
8 of 10It was a proud day for all sports enthusiasts earlier this year when ESPN announced that they have chosen not to renew the contracts of Sunday night baseball announcers Joe Morgan and Jon Miller.
For more then 21 years, the two have both been awful on air personalities and have turned the idea of sports broadcasting into a joke.
Morgan was a great player, but his skills in the broadcast booth were nothing to write home about. Miller was not any better as an announcer. He was demoted to doing just radio.
Dan Shulman is on board to be a replacement, a much better choice for all.
Here is an example of Morgan at his best.
2. Joe Theisman, Bob Papa and Matt Millen
9 of 10
This Thursday night NFL Network crew is one of the worst of all time. This network struggled to get viewers as it was and putting this crew together to announce their games was the worst thing that they could have done.
Here is an example. During The Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans game, they stated that A. Jarvis James is Edgerrin James little brother. In reality, he is his cousin.
They commented the the Colts haven't missed the playoffs since 1981. In reality, the Colts missed the playoffs in 2001.
They then finished off the night by referring to the Colt's all-pro receiver, Reggie Wayne, as Reggie White, an all-pro defensive lineman in the NFL.
Error after error, stupid comment after stupid comment. This crew is up there with the worst of the worst.
1. Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic
10 of 10
This choice was a difficult one because Mike & Mike In the Morning is one of, if not the best sports radio talk show on the air today. But put these two guys together in the booth to announce a football game, it becomes brutally awful.
Fortunately, it has not happened often. Mike Greenberg, along with Mike Golic and Mike Ditka announced the second game of a 2007 and 2008 Monday Night Football Week 1 doubleheader. The duo then teamed up with Steve Young to call the second game of the 2009 opening weekend ESPN Monday Night Football doubleheader again, this time with the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders playing.
I distinctly remember watching that football game and thinking that as much as I love football, this is almost unbearable. Greenberg's style of announcing was so dry, and he seemed like a complete different type of personality then he on his radio show. Golic was the same. They we're far more serious and far less entertaining than their radio show.
The crew did not do any Monday Night Football Games this year.Guys, forgo the football world and stick to radio...Please!
