NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks Still in the Hunt for Carmelo Anthony
According to the New York Daily News, the New York Knicks are still very much in the hunt for Denver Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony.
The Knicks are still in the hunt because Anthony's preferred destination is still New York.
Just a few days ago, it seemed as if it was a lock that 'Melo would be traded to the New Jersey Nets, but that deal seems to be falling apart.
Someone close to the negotiations with the Knicks and Nuggets told the New York Daily News that the possibility of the trade going through is "50-50."
In order for the deal to be possible, Knicks Team President Donnie Walsh must find a way to acquire a first-round pick elsewhere, then trade that pick to the Nuggets to get 'Melo. If there is no first-round pick, there is probably no deal.
The Nets possess multiple first-round picks and can offer them to the Nuggets, which made the Nets the front-runner to land No. 15.
However, the Knicks have the talent on their current roster that will get a deal done for 'Melo. In order for the deal to get done, the Knicks would likely have to ship out two of these three players—Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and Landry Fields.
It has also been reported that Eddy Curry's expiring contract would be apart of the deal and, of course, the first-round pick.
One issue for the Knicks if they decide to trade for 'Melo: they may have to take on a player with a big contract, and Al Harrington could be that player.
The Knicks have already been down that road with Harrington and they may not want to do that again.
With new rumors arising almost every week, nobody can be certain where Anthony will end up, but it is known that he would prefer New York over anywhere else.
If the Knicks do work out a deal for Anthony, he would be paired with Amar'e Stoudemire and Raymond Felton to form their own "Big Three."
