Denver Nuggets and Carmelo Anthony: Please Stop the NBA Rumors

Sal DeRoseJan 13, 2011

It's been around half a year since the Carmelo Anthony trade rumors began. Each time a trade pops up or a rumor is heard everybody quickly switches to ESPN or runs to their computer thinking a trade could be imminent.

Funny thing is, it's never happened and as much as they might say it was close to happening, it still fell apart.

Anthony trade rumors have floated and tossed around the NBA so much in the past half year. Yet still on this very day a deal isn't done and, the deal that was close to happening, seems to have hit a snag.

See, Carmelo Anthony was involved in a huge mega-blockbuster deal that would land him in New Jersey (Brooklyn in the future). A deal seemed near and so close that everybody was on the edge of their seats wondering if they should buy a new 'Melo jersey.

The deal involved so many players that it would make one's head swirl. The deal would land the Nets Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups and Carmelo. The Nuggets would land two future first-round picks, Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow, Quinton Ross, Ben Uzoh and Stephen Graham, while giving Detroit Troy Murphy, Johan Petro and the Nets second round pick.

So basically if you didn't read that, or if don't understand it, the Nets basically would be trading an arm and a leg coupled with their first-born sons for the next 50 years.

Then came the news that Chauncey Billups wanted a buyout if he was indeed traded to New Jersey. Then, like there weren't enough players in this deal, the Nuggets were trying to push Al Harrington's four-year, $28 million contract onto New Jersey

Even more news appeared and that the Nets were leaking information about the trade to put pressure on Nuggets management then, subsequently, the Nuggets reportedly issued the Nets an ultimatum—stop leaking information or we will trade Anthony to the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony has also never said on record that he would sign an extension with Nets—a huge deal-breaker for any team vying for the former Orangemen's services.

Ouch. That one had to sting the Nets front office. Now if that soap opera drama isn't enough for you the Knicks are reportedly, still, very much in the mix for Carmelo Anthony. But according to Anthony, the Knicks "may not want him."

Apparently now, Amar'e Stoudemire is now trying to recruit Anthony to join forces in Madison Square Garden. The Knicks, in order to complete a deal, would have to give up two out of the three players that have been tossed around, Danillo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Landry Fields.

Fact of the matter is if Denver were to get a report card for this saga they would most certainly be getting a pretty low grade. They have let this draw out and linger around that it could be affecting anybody on the Nets and Nuggets.

This saga has to end whether it be to New York or New Jersey. Detroit is just sitting there licking their chops at the fact that this deal will put them way under the cap for next offseason. Someone please pull the trigger.

It seems everyday there is more news about Carmelo Anthony.

Look, I am a Knicks fan and I would love to see him play at Madison Square Garden but it's at the point now where I don't know what rumors to listen to or when they say there is actually a trade, whether to believe he will really be traded.

I understand the kind of player we are talking about here but honestly, this trade is making everyone pull their hair out. The madness needs to stop. Pull the trigger on someone's deal Denver. The longer you let this go, it seems more and more likely he will end up a Knick anyway.
