NFL Playoffs: Who Needs A Win More On Sunday, Aaron Rodgers Or Michael Vick?

Patrick ClarkeJan 7, 2011

The NFL playoffs are set to kick off this weekend with four monumental wild card match ups.

The last game on the weekend's slate is sure to be a good one, as the Green Bay Packers (10-6) travel to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles (10-6).

Green Bay was projected by many to represent the NFC in North Texas this February; however, injuries piled up on the Packers quickly in 2010.

Early nicks to running back Ryan Grant and tight end Jermichael Finley forced Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to change their offensive mindset midseason.

Middle linebacker Nick Barnett was also lost for the year in the season's early weeks.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, flourished as the underdog in 2010.

The Eagles were supposed to be lead by quarterback Kevin Kolb. However, Kolb suffered a concussion in Philly's week one loss to who else?

The Green Bay Packers.

The second half of that loss would spark Michael Vick's remarkable 2010 regular season, which featured a record-breaking Monday night performance in Washington, DC, as well as an NFC East title.

On Sunday evening, though, the regular season will be forgotten as these two teams gun for their biggest win of the year.

An Eagles victory sends Philly to Chicago for a week 12 rematch with the Bears, while a Packers win sends Green Bay to the NFC's No. 1 overall seed, the Atlanta Falcons, next weekend.

Both would certainly be marquee matchups; however, only one can happen.

It's easy to say that there is a lot riding on Sunday's game. But for two quarterbacks, Sunday's wild card carries career-defining purpose.

For Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers, the question is when?

When will he make his stamp on Packers' history with a postseason win. He played well but lost in his only career playoff game last year.

Another early exit this year, and Rodgers will be feeling the pressure, likely in the form of a huge number four.

For Michael Vick, the question is how?

How will he be remembered as a quarterback? Vick's style of play will likely never be seen again, but where does playoff success factor into our opinion of him?

If the Eagles lay an egg on Sunday, is he chased out of Philadelphia as an impostor, or is he revered for his statistical accomplishments?

Both quarterbacks have created legacies in their short careers, but only one will have a chance to become a legend after Sunday night.
