Breaking News: Tony Sparano To Be Retained As Dolphins Head Coach In 2011
According to multiple sources, including ESPNs Adam Schefter, the Miami Dolphins have decided to retain head coach Tony Sparano for the 2011 season.
According to said sources, after Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland met with Jim Harbaugh, they just felt that Sparano gave them the best chance to win.
I'd like to call BS on this one. Most likely what happened was that Harbaugh did not want the Dolphins job.

So what do the Dolphins do then, go back to Sparano and say, "Hey, you get to keep your job because the man we want as coach doesn't want to coach us"?
What a slap in the face to Tony. Not only has he gone through a process that involved Dolphins fans casting him away, but then have the owner publicly look for another coach while Tony was still on the job. Plus they were about to pay Harbaugh $7-8 million a year for a guy that hasn't even coached an NFL game as a head coach.
And I mean absolutely no disrespect to Jim Harbaugh—he's a great guy and a great coach—but what the Dolphins did to Sparano was an absolute disgrace, and they will have a hard time if they have to do another head coaching search.
Who wants to coach a team where the executives will look for your replacement while you're still on the job?
Sparano has gone 25-24 in three season as the Dolphins head coach. That includes going 11-5 after a 1-15 season. The past two years, the Dolphins have gone 7-9, however, mainly due to injuries and a poor offense led by Dan Henning, who should be let go after this season.
Now Sparano has a long offseason that involves re-building the majority of the Dolphins offense. In order to keep his job after next year, Sparano will have to go 11-5 and win a playoff game to be safe.
Good luck, Tony, I'm behind you 100 percent.
