Jim Harbaugh a 49ers Favorite: Coach May Walk Because York Is All Talk
I have become absolutely infuriated because of the articles being posted regarding the recent developments in the 49ers head coaching search. I needed somewhere to vent, and perhaps I could enlighten a few who aren't following the situation as closely as I am.
My passion for the 49ers runs viciously deep, and with my birthday coming tomorrow, the only thing I want is for my football team to build itself into a Super Bowl contender. As fans we were initially TOLD the right things:
"Money is no object," said the embarrassed 49ers owner, aiming to save face after being eliminated from playoff contention. "We're going to get this right." "Our goal is to win Super Bowls."
Sounds inspiring to the fan right? During that same press conference, York stated that the next GM would be someone who had been there and done that. He would be someone who would be able to hire the next head coach.
We as people expect others to be one of their word. If you, the reader, whoever you may be, post a comment on this story saying that you are going to come back to this and comment later, I would expect you to do that.
Why? Because I expect people, especially strangers, to be a person of their word. Jed York, is a stranger.
Now, for York's actions...
NFL Web sites, blogs and informative articles made a mockery of York's GM search. It was said all along that York would simply promote Baalke despite what he SAID earlier. (Reminder, he said he would hire someone with GM experience.)
What did he do? Promote Baalke. Who has not been there done that. Who has no GM experience (aside from filling in for the Niners this year).
York has fooled us on the second part of his promise. He will let the GM select a head coach. Hmmm, not so much...
York wanted Harbaugh all along. So HE chose the GM that would choose the coach that HE wanted. Essentially, he chose the coach.
The funny thing is, Harbaugh's first choice is San Francisco because his family doesn't want to move. He interviewed for 5 hours despite his advisers suggesting he stay away from San Fran because of their horrible front office structure.
Now here is what further perpetuates the infuriating feelings...
The Miami Dolphins have met with Harbaugh and decided to offer Harbaugh more money than the 49ers. Based on what Jed York said earlier, this is no problem right? Right, except for the fact that Jed York is not a man of his word.
According to sources, the 49ers are "ready to move on" to other coaches if Harbaugh goes with the more money option. Wait, I thought Harbaugh was the coach you wanted? The one that could restore the team? I thought money was no object? I thought you were gonna do what it takes to make this a winning franchise?
I may be wrong and we could very well have chemistry with the people that wind up in these positions. But this has been a horrible PR display for the 49er Faithful to witness. We we are about to settle on a head coach just like we settled on a GM, essentially settling on NFL mediocrity.
Wait, we were third place in a division that produced a 7-9 winner. **minimizes Bleacher Report, pulls up dictionary.com**
That's what I thought, 'mediocrity' means "a middle state, or success in moderation."
I'm not sure what we're settling on, but it isn't even mediocrity.
