Tiger Woods: 10 Bold Predictions for Eldrick in 2011
When Tiger Woods says that he does not want to be as good as he was when he was at his best, but wants to be better, the golfing world ought to take note. There is no doubt that the world No. 2 has targeted 2011 as the year that he regains his crown—and it would require a brave man to dispute his ability of doing so.
He has been perfecting his swing for some time with coach, Steve Foley, and if the last few tournaments of 2010 are anything to go by, perfection will be reached in ample time. Realistically, if perfection is achieved then nothing will be impossible for him on any golf course during 2011.
At the end of the day it should be remembered that he has won the all four ‘Majors’ several times over already, meaning that there is absolutely no reason why he couldn’t win all four ‘Majors’ this coming year or indeed any tournament that he enters. This of course will not happen, but the following are a few predictions of what might happen to Eldrick Tont "Tiger" Woods over the coming 12 months!
First Victory of 2011 Will Come in the Farmers Open
1 of 10
Tiger will win the Farmers Open at Torrey Pines at the end of January. It is well known that he loves this course and has won on this course the last five times he has played there; that includes the 2008 US Open, his last ‘Major’ success.
Destination Dubai for First Meeting for World No. 1 Lee Westwood
2 of 10
He will line up against current No. 1, Lee Westwood, for the first time in the year in the Dubai Desert Classic, a tournament he won in both 2006 and 2008. He will not win, however, nor will Westwood, but a top-10 finish for Tiger is assured.
A Win Will Come in the WGC-Accenture Match Play
3 of 10
His second victory of the year in fact will come at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February. It will be his fourth win in the tournament, the last one coming in 2008, on a course he favours at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
No Luck at Augusta in First Major of the Year
4 of 10
The US Masters at Augusta in April will be one of his principle targets for 2011, but he will be disappointed and will have to settle for a top-10 finish only. Despite his success down the years at Augusta, the first major of the year may come a little early in Tiger's road back to the top and he may have to make way for those players with more recent "major" form.
The Wait for Sawgrass Success to Continue
5 of 10
Tiger will also be in close contention at the Players Championship at Sawgrass; his 2001 victory in this event remains his only success at this tournament. This tournament this year is destined to be won by a European!
Bank On Victory in the AT&T National
6 of 10
Tiger’s next success of 2011 will come in the AT&T National at the beginning of July in Washington DC, a tournament which he hosts and which he won in 2009.
Westwood and Tiger 1-2 in Open Championship
7 of 10
The battle for the top ranking position will be fought "tooth and nail" throughout the year between Westwood and Woods and will do much to raise the rivalry between the two tours. It will be Westwood, however, who will win the the Open Championship at Royal St George in Kent, England. Tiger will finish runner-up as Westwood lands his first "major"!
Tiger to Take PGA Championship
8 of 10
Tiger will be back amongst the "Majors" in August, when he wins his fifth PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia, where he will win by a big distance. It will be his 15th "Major" and first since winning the US Open in 2008. The victory will put him back on top of the world rankings.
Tiger to Find Love in 2011
9 of 10
Off the golf course, Tiger will be a far more discreet individual, but 2011 will become the year he becomes romantically involved for the first time since "those revelations" surrounding his extra-marital affairs. The question on every housewives' lips will be who is the lucky lady?
World No. 1 By End of the Year
10 of 10
Tiger will finish the year by becoming the FedEx Cup champion for the third time and will be No. 1 in the rankings on Dec. 31, 2011, capping a year that sees him making the headlines for all the right reasons and completing his return to his golfing best.
