Panthers-Bears: Two Undefeated Teams Enter, Only One Will Leave

Justin BakerSep 10, 2008

While some may call it a fluke, only time will tell. While the entire NFL morns the loss of their God—Tom Brady—the Bears focus on trying to pull off another win. In Week Two, the Bears will take on yet another team that is suffering from a depleted offensive line.

In order for the Bears to pull of a win, they will need to succeed in all phases. While many say Kyle Orton is a game manager, there undoubtedly will come a time when he will be faced with a do-or-die situation. What many Chicago fans need to realized is that Kyle Orton is exactly what this team needs.

One of the most underlooked aspects of the modern-day quarterback is that one moment. The moment in a game that means everything. Many Chicago Bears fans would love to have a QB that throws 24 of 48 for 324 yards, but none of that means anything if that QB can't win it in the forth quarter.

How many times has the NFL seen QBs like Donovan McNabb throw for 300-plus yards and lose? What makes Kyle Orton such a good fit for the team is his swagger. And with a healthy D that creates takeaways, Orton is a perfect fit.

However, a major aspect of the Bears success is to keep pressure, continue the takeaways, and to run the ball effectively. Only time can tell if Orton can live up to an ideal QB.

While the naysayers moan and groan about how this Orton is just a game manager, it is imperative to keep in mind that last week, Orton made key throws in key situations to keep his team in a winning situation.

And when that moment comes, when the clock shows 1:25 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, wouldn't you prefer to have a QB that will work down the field and make the right choices, rather than a gunslinger that will put the ball up for grabs.

Orton has this ability to lead and win. What does it matter if he wins by throwing for 140 years and zero touchdowns, so long as he leads that team to a win?

On Sunday, only one team can walk away undefeated. The countdown starts on Sunday. There can be only one!
