5-Star RB Isaiah Crowell: Does Dee Hart To Alabama Mean Crowell To Georgia?

Michael PintoJan 3, 2011

Five-star running back Isaiah Crowell is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the nation, and up until yesterday, his top two choices were Georgia and Alabama.

While Crowell has yet to confirm or deny any changes from his end, we hesitate to say that a race between the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide is still the case now that 4-star running back Dee Hart has committed to Alabama.

Hart had originally committed to Michigan, but ties to current Alabama commitment Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, the top rated safety in the nation, lured him over to the Tide.

Hart is a huge addition for Alabama. He's an electric playmaker who's faster on the field than his 4.5-second 40-time would suggest.

He has great balance, vision, change-of-direction ability, and at 5'9" and 190 lbs, a surprising ability to break tackles. He may be undersized, but he's a compact and strong rusher who can really dish out punishment.

Having him on the books also means that the chances of losing Clinton-Dix have plummeted. Clinton-Dix and Hart are teammates at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando and plan to make a joint official visit to Florida this month; the pair had previously said there was an 85 percent chance they'd play in college together

As for Crowell, the decision for the Georgia native just became a little clearer. Crowell has already believed to be favoring the Bulldogs, but now that Hart has essentially taken his roster spot at Alabama, there's really nothing left to debate.

Alabama already has Trent Richardson entrenched as the starter in 2011, assuming Mark Ingram leaves school early for the NFL, and with Eddie Lacy emerging after a solid freshman season, there really isn't room for a pair of new star running backs.

As it stands now, Hart isn't likely to receive much more than the 56 carries that Lacy received in 2010. Add Crowell to the mix and you simply don't have enough touches to go around.

It's a situation that just won't work, and at this point, the assumption is that Alabama was already aware that there wasn't much of a chance to sign Crowell at this point anyway.

That's very good news if you're a Bulldogs fan, considering Crowell would instantly become the top back on Georgia's roster were he to commit its way.

After a disappointing season from Washaun Ealey, the Bulldogs are in need of some fresh blood at the running back position, and you can't do much better than Crowell.

He has great breakaway speed, is very elusive, has top of the line instincts, makes lightning-fast cuts, doesn't hesitate and can break tackles with the best of them.

Some scouts believe he'll end up being the top running back from a very talented and deep 2011 recruiting class, and based on Crowell's performance throughout his high school career, it wouldn't be surprising to see that happen.

While Crowell plans on waiting until National Signing Day to announce his commitment, at this point it looks like it's Georgia on his mind.
