Reeling In The Years: My Top 5 Favourite WWE Moments Of 2010

The Jonathan CooneyyDec 30, 2010

At the beginning of 2010 (an odd year in Pro Wrestling), TNA was creating all the headlines and as the year continued, Shawn Michaels began to feature in the news as usual.

Shawn shocked the entire wrestling world by shaking the hand of the man who he "screwed" Bret "The Hitman" Hart and as well as that, his emotional retirement also stirred things up in WWE.

As the year continued we saw some sad deaths (Giant Gonzales, Luna Vachon and Lance Cade), shocking title wins (Kane, The Miz) and some great matches (Ziggler vs. Bryan, MCMG's vs. Beer Money)

We saw the end of one era and the beginning of another as ECW shut down and NXT was put on display to the world.

5. Randy Orton: Incredible RKO!!

1 of 5

Randy Orton had a good title run in John Cena's (PG) Era, I think him and Kane are the only people who can say that.

So this means Orton has had a good year, and the highlight of his year was definitely his sick RKO on poor Evan Bourne.

The move was beautifully timed and Evan Bourne can now add that to his highlights because if he botched that like Ken Kennedy did, who knows where he would be in his career right now.

I think it is pity Bourne got injured when he did as he was looking good in matches against Punk and Sheamus and he already had successfully defeated Chris Jericho on PPV and live on Monday Night RAW cleanly.

I think Bourne is a top contender for this year's Money in the Bank award.

And if he is successful then hopefully we will be seeing a lot more of Randy Orton and Evan Bourne in the ring because, to carry out a move like that I think you must have some seriously great chemistry between one and other.

4. Kane Regaining Some Credit and Respect

2 of 5

Kane was being defeated by the likes of Kozlov, Khali and more for too long...it was only right that he be given a chance at success.

People (including myself) know Kane would be absolutely nothing if he had come from the academy being just your average wrestler but considering he was The Deadman's brother, it just changed everything.

The character needs to be vicious, dominant, taken seriously and definitely victorious.

When Kane won the MITB I still had my doubts on would he cash in or not and then more doubts about would he win the title and when he came out and pinned Rey, I was filled with 100 percent happiness.

And I remember at the time, I was not long on Bleacher Report and I wrote about the victory, it was only my second or third article here on this site.

The victory and title reign overall was marvelous and just shows that at any age there is always opportunity in life.

3. Nexus' Awesome Debut!

3 of 5

There are few debuts in WWE that stick out to me and since Brock Lesnar's classic debut there have been basically known that were as memorable as The Nexus'.

The group has brutalised RAW wrestlers and some members on SmackDown. They have made a fool out of the company's star John Cena and have beaten down the likes of Sheamus, Randy Orton, Mark Henry, Big Show and many more.

They won the Tag Title and literally buried The Undertaker alive and have controlled SmackDown for an entire night.

Nexus have achieved a lot in business in a short while but funny enough, not one man whilst apart of the dominant group have held a solo title.

We all know that former member Daniel Bryan and John Cena have been tremendously successful challenging for titles but as not once did they win one as members in the group.

My ideal feud for Daniel Bryan's US Title would be with Justin Gabriel.

Both men are capable of so much, and I think it is really unfair that just because Wade Barrett is the leader that he is the only one who has been given the chance to challenge for titles.

I am a massive fan of Barrett, but I do think that Skip Sheffield and Justin Gabriel would be able to hold their own in matches against current champions.

What I am trying to say that WWE gave Nexus such a dominant debut but they have dropped the ball a little.

2. Shawn Michaels Retirement and Final Match.

4 of 5

I suppose lots of you reading this are wondering how on earth is this not number one?

Well it was a tight call, in the end however, I think I made the correct one from my point of view!

There are five guys in the last 12 years that in my mind have changed WWE forever and they are The Rock, Steve Austin, Undertaker, Chris Jericho and without doubt Shawn Michaels.

They all brought something different as well as unique and of course as memorable as could be.

Shawn's match with Taker at WrestleMania 26 was great considering the pressure and age that was hanging above each man's head.

Shawn Michaels retirement was obviously something that disappointed me and pleased me all in one, it was amazing to see go out in such a high-profile match between one of the greatest... The Undertaker!

RAW and WrestleMania will never even be almost the same.

Shawn was a great performer and seeing him leave with100 percent dignity intact was great. Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair will not be able to have a leave quite like the great HBK had.

1. Sheamus Winning The King Of The Ring!

5 of 5

I know a lot of you John Morrison fans out there were a bit pissed when the Celtic Warrior beat him to become the King of the Ring but, this victory meant a lot to me.

Well for starters, if JoMo had beat Sheamus then I think Sheamus would be No. 1 contender right now and I think we all prefer Miz vs. Morrison as they really do bring out the best in each other as we all now really well.

And secondly, another reason why I was glad to see Sheamus crowned victorious is because us Irish have really little in Sport and feel as proud as punch when I turn on my television and see a fellow Dubliner battling it out with the likes of John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton and the rest of the WWE roster.

A lot of my friends feel the same way as I do.

I am not saying I am happy with the way WWE have portrayed Sheamus' character but I am just happy that some one utter than Cena or Triple H are achieving their dreams, goals and life ambitions.

With the above been said I am not just talking about Sheamus, I am talking about all WWE underdogs like John Morrison, The Miz, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Evan Bourne and well you get the picture...

And when I say "underdog," I definitely do not mean Rey Mysterio.
