Thirty-three-year-old, formerly ranked American heavyweight David Rodriguez (33-0, 31KOs) returns to the ring on Feb. 11, 2011 in his hometown of El Paso, Texas at the Don Haskins Convention Center. His opponent will be Ty Cobb (11-2, 8 KOs) from Wichita Falls, Texas.

Rodriguez which has 25 first-round knockouts and a knockout ratio of 94 percent has been eager to get into the ring and resume his career. He has recently parted ways amicably (no hard feelings) with longtime promoter Bob Spagnola and Trainer Louie Burke. He felt it was a time for a change in order to reach the next level of his career.

His new team consist of promoter Zeferino Ramirez's "Z Entertainment" along with himself and his father David Rodriguez Sr. as co-promoters. His training and conditioning coaches are Jessie Reid, former local pro Herman Delgado and local heavyweight Joe Sullivan which will be featured on the undercard.

At 6'4", 245 lbs., Rodriguez feels that he "still has a lot to offer to the sport and that he is the most explosive heavyweight out there, that he is now mentally, and physically ready."

Rodriguez the former WBA-NABA heavyweight champion, last victory was a second-round TKO over Daniel Bispo this past March 27, 2010. His last three TKO victories have been against opponents with a combined record of 75-25.

The main goal for Rodriguez and his new team is for him to stay active, fighting every three to four months against competitive opponents so he can be ranked again, and eventually fight for a world heavyweight title and come out victorious.

Ramirez, his new promoter, feels "that David is going to be a world champion. That no heavyweight out there has the speed or power that David does."

David plans to remain focused one fight at a time, and eventually getting to that next championship level (which he feels will come soon), that his time is now.
