Scott Speed Will Make His Sprint Cup Debut at Lowes Motor Speedway
In anticipation of his Sprint Cup debut, Scott Speed will participate in the open test at the 1.5 mile Lowe's Motor Speedway on Sept. 23 and 24.
Speed, the former Formula One driver, will be making his debut at the Bank of America 500 on Oct. 11 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Team Red Bull already has secured the No. 82 for Speed. The test, along with the race, will be gauged by both Red Bull and Speed to see where they are in regard to the possibility of Speed going into Sprint Cup in 2009, due to so much speculation on what his plans are.
I have read a bunch of articles on the talented Speed and reported on him here on B/R.
I have read where he says he's in no hurry for Cup and would run full-time in the truck series next year. Also, Jim Frye, general manager of Team Red Bull, commented in a article that in 2010, he's going full-time in Cup.
It's easy to see that, with his success, that may have changed. Speed's success in the ARCA Re/Max Series and the Craftsman Truck Series may enable to make the jump to Cup a little quicker than most would have thought possible.
Really, it depends if Team Red Bull and Scott Speed feel it's the right move for him.
Currently, Speed's leading in ARCA by 75 points, with four-wins, nine top-fives, and 14 top-10s in 16 starts.
In a limited schedule in CTS, he's recorded his first win at Dover, has three top-fives, and five top-10s in nine starts, and his average finish of 14th place.
It will be exciting to see what Speed can do in a Sprint Cup car at Lowe's and in the upcoming months, in order to learn what his plans really are for 2009.
Just hope you're all as ready for the "Speed Racer" as I am.
