Knicks Bringing Meaningful Basketball Back to the Concrete Jungle
The Knicks almost beat the Boston Celtics last night. But unfortunately, almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.
The New York Knicks have dazzled their way into the hearts of every New York fan in the last month. After a disastrous bid for Cliff Lee and the dagger already deep enough in the hearts of New York sports fans everywhere, the Knicks have been the one bright spot.
The Knicks had an eight game winning streak going into last night. That's right, the Knicks of all teams, had an eight game winning streak. They need to obtain the credit they deserve for this winning streak. It might have been against bad teams, but for the first time in a long time, the Knicks have consistently beaten the bad teams.
Amar'e Stoudemire has undoubtedly been this catalyst to a team that was on life support all of last season. He leaves Madison Square Garden to the chants of "M-V-P!" and leaves satisfied knowing he is helping revive what is, a great basketball city.
Stoudemire dropped 39 points last night with 10 rebounds and three blocks. He has averaged more then 30 points a game on this eight game streak. Maybe it is because of his reuniting with his former coach, or maybe because of the assertion of Raymond Felton, who last night dished out 14 assists with another 26 points thrown in.
No one knows what to attribute Amar'e's revival to. He has become more than a beast out on the court, and he showed that last night, as it seemed every shot he took went in.
A trade for Carmelo Anthony doesn't seem to be coming any time soon. But, the players mentioned in a deal for Anthony produce more then expected. Landry Fields, the second round pick out of Stanford has produced more then his fair share of great plays and should be considered for Rookie of the Year no doubt. Danilo Gallinari has learned how to not shoot the three pointer but attack the basket and draw the foul. Then there is Wilson Chandler who has played fantastic so far this season.
There is no need for Carmelo right now. He is a pure scorer and, to add that to this need doesn't seem necessary right now.
Anything is possible and with the Miami Heat coming in on Friday, this could be a new chapter in Knicks basketball. Possibly a nice playoff run too, nothing is too far off for these Knickerbockers.
Nothing.
