Jets open new training facility

Hot Stove New YorkSep 3, 2008

The New York Jets unveiled their new $75 million facility in Florham Park, New Jersey yesterday. The franchise was supposed to move in after this season, but construction was finished six months ahead of schedule allowing the Jets to practice there this week. It took over 200 workers and 18 months of construction but the Atlantic Health Training Center has twice the amount of space the Jets had at Hofstra University. The Jets spent the last 40 years at Hofstra but the new 27-acre property is more modern and closer to Giants Stadium. The new suburban facility is located within 20 miles of both the Meadowlands and Newark Liberty International Airport.

The facility includes an 11,000-square-foot weight room, five practice fields, 10 classrooms and 60 big-screen televisions. Overall the training center is two-stories and takes up 137,000 square feet. The players ashould be pleased with the new building because of the state of the art amenities. A new cafeteria, larger meeting rooms and new high definition projections.

The 27-acre land has been vacant for seven years and Jets owner Woody Johnson believes the site can give the Jets a competitive advantage. The new facility should prepare the Jets more efficiently. The team kicks off the regular season in Miami this Sunday.
