The SEC Is Afraid to Travel!
SEC teams should all apply for an American Express card, because they sure are afraid to leave home without it.
Or perhaps some wealthy boosters could donate GPS systems so the teams won't be afraid that they will lose their way and never be heard from again.
Could it be an intense Nomophobia—fear of being out of mobile phone contact?
No, I think not. I believe there's another reason for the SEC's Hodophobia.
More than likely, they are afraid of getting their butts kicked. It always looks better to pay some I-AA patsy to come to your house and take their licking. After all, that's a good way to pad your stats.
Speaking of stats, how do these grab you?
The Pac-10 is No. 1 in miles traveled among BCS conferences while the SEC is dead last, and their win-loss record when they do travel to OOC BCS schools is, dare I say, pathetic.
But before y'all jump down my throat, the statistics are right here in an SEC country newspaper, The Birmingham News.
Now, I don't own a GPS, but the last time I looked Birmingham was in Alabama, and Alabama is in the SEC.
After reading that, I don't see how the SEC can deny that they are very wary about leaving the South. But since they don't want to leave home, maybe the polls and the BCS should judge the SEC by the teams they bring in.
Let's see some of the explosive competition that the SEC invited into their houses this past week: Georgia Southern, Louisiana-Monroe, Appalachian State, and Western Illinois.
I know Florida brought in Hawai'i. That was nice of the Gators. And Bama did manage to find its way over to Clemson without tripping and falling flat on their faces. Very nice, fellas. Congrats!
Oh yes, and then Tennessee, the No. 18-ranked team, which the rest of the SEC will call very mediocre, did fly out to Los Angeles and lost to a "given up for dead" Pac-10 team that was down to its third-team JUCO quarterback and had to use seven true freshmen due to first-unit injuries.
This week, you're bringing in the likes of Troy, Central Michigan (way to go Georgia—and you wonder why you got bumped from the No. 1 spot), Southern Miss, Tulane, and Norfolk State.
Congratulations go to Florida for playing a BCS team, Miami. And let's not forget South Carolina is traveling to Vandy after shutting out NC State. But let's not get too far away from home, fellas.
Maybe there's something telling in a name. Who's that coach at LSU? LESS Miles.
One thing in their favor though: None of the SEC teams brought in Coastal Carolina—yet. Penn State put up 66 against them. Think what Florida or LSU could do. Hopefully Joe Pa still has their phone number.
