Why Arsene Wenger Has Done Enough So Far
Like many Arsenal fans, I waited anxiously as the transfer window closed for the summer. I frequently check Google news (the best place to find European football info) and Bleacher Report to see who he picked up. I wanted to see a holding midfielder come to the Emirates, but as the deadline passed Arsene didn't get anyone. While Manchester City was spending a small country's GDP in transfers, Arsenal stood pat with the squad they had and I think we will be just fine.
If you saw the Newcastle game you'd know why I am saying that. When Arsenal are healthy their form is unmatched in all the world. The free flowing movement and continuous passing, and the unrelenting attack are awe inspiring. However, the most important thing that Arsenal did was put the ball in the back of the net. Too many times Arsenal amazes with the build up, but can't finish (remember CSKA Moscow). However I think they have fixed those problems.

The health of this team is paramount. When Cesc Fabregas was out the team looked lost. Fabregas is a leader on that team and his passing ability creates opportunities no one else can create. With him in the lineup everyone plays better as well. Prime example is Denilson. He looked completely lost again Fulham (where he had to be the primary creative force) and against Newcastle he was making good passing and creating opportunities for the strikers. RVP when healthy could be one of the top strikers in the EPL if not Europe. Though he came off the field with an injury it was minor and should hurt his form.
We can also score goals from the midfield. Last year there was too much dependence on Adebayor to score goals. When he wasn't up to form Arsenal struggled to score goals. However with Hleb gone and Nasri in Arsenal can score from the midfield. Nasri is predicted to become the next Zidane for France, but I would love to see him play like Robert Pires. You could pencil Pires in for about 12-14 goals a season just in the EPL. Hleb in his 3 years at Arsenal scored 16 goals in all competition. Nasri has already showed that he can score and his transition has been seamless. Fabregas continues to improve in his goal scoring abilities as well.
Set pieces were Arsenal's problem last year. However, if RVP stays healthy, it will become more of a weapon. RVP looked great on his free kicks in the game against Newcastle. Fabregas will be able to create opportunities on corners as well. For a big guy Adebayor doesn't play balls in the air like he should. With his physical attributes he should be as effect as Drogba, but if he can develop he will be unstoppable on set pieces.
Injuries should not be as much of a probelm for Arsenal in the midfield and striker positions with the added depth they have. Walcott, Vela, Ramsey, Diaby, Bendtner, and Bischoff should be able to fill in for those injured and can allow for some rest time for the starting XI
The problems for Arsenal again are in the back. I never believed Gallas should be captain (KOLO TOURE). Silvestre is known for some mental lapses but Gallas on set pieces has been horrible. He constantly leaves his man unmarked and it has cost Arsenal dearly. I think Silvestre could do better than Gallas and he gives them some more depth. For Arsenal their best defense will be a good offense.
The X-factor will be the play of Eboue. If he can play solid football and not lose his head he can be a stop gap solution until the January transfer window or the development of Bischoff. If he reverts to plying foolishly and losing his temper then Arsenal may be in some trouble.
Do I think it would have helped if Arsene had signed Inler or Alonso? Yes. Do I think Arsenal can't compete for any of the major titles without a major holding midfielder signing? No. Arsenal's form is good enough to win the CL, the league, and the FA cup. A January signing would only solidify that. Its early but I don't think anyone should say the Arsenal won't win any silverware this year.
