Blake Griffin: Rating His Best 15 Dunks This Year
Blake Griffin is one of the biggest stories of this NBA season and, if you've watched a couple highlight reels recently, you'll see why.
Griffin throws it down on a nightly basis it seems, and with each game he gets better and better. With that in mind, I've found the top 15 dunks of his career and we've ranked them. Any thoughts or comments? Make sure to leave it below.
Which dunk do you think is the best?
No. 15: Putback Against Denver
1 of 15The one thing I noticed about Blake Griffin from his first game this year is his court vision.
Griffin always seems to find a way to put himself in a position to make plays and that's why he's always blowing up the highlight reels. He's an athletic freak, sure, but he just has an uncanny ability to see the floor and know where to be.
That's how he can get up in traffic and throw back this missed shot for a jam.
No. 14: Alley To The Oop
2 of 15If you watch Blake Griffin for even the shortest amount of time, there's one thing that becomes apparent.
The man can jump, plain and simple. Look how high he gets on this leap and remember that he's coming off of a knee injury that cost him an entire season. Not only that, but the force he puts on the ball in stunning.
Just look how high the ball bounces after he slams it.
No. 13: Pick and Roll
3 of 15The Blake Griffin dunk parade continued last night against the San Antonio Spurs.
Griffin had a monster game and led the Clippers to a huge win over the best team in the NBA. Is there any doubt that he's going to be the Rookie of the Year if he keeps this up? He's dropping 31 points and 13 boards on the Spurs.
He's just so impressive right now.
No. 12: Two-Hand Reverse
4 of 15You know you're good when you have Clippers fans expecting great things.
I could have sworn those fans were so conditioned to losing they never expected anything good to happen. However, just listen to the crowd when Griffin gets the ball near the basket. The roar starts before he even makes his move.
Not only that, but it's a sweet two-hand reverse. Unlike LeBron James, Griffin isn't a one trick pony when it comes to dunks.
No. 11: Putback Slam
5 of 15Blake Griffin missed a year of playing time and he made up for it rather quickly.
This wasn't his first jam of his career, but it was one of his best dunks. It always looks so effortless when he dunks. He just puts so little effort into jumping that it's astonishing that he can jump so high with that little movement.
It was clear that he was going to be a force from the opening game forward.
No. 10: Thunder Jam
6 of 15Blake Griffin is a big man, but he's a dangerous man on the break.
Just look at him as the ball comes up the floor. He sees the lane, finds it and just throws it down. Look at how no one really challenges him either. That's when you know you have respect as a player in the association.
It's just a nasty jam on the break.
No. 9: Dribble Drive
7 of 15Only the Knicks could let this happen.
It looks like New York is going to force a turnover only for Griffin to get the ball back, breakdown Amare Stoudemire off the dribble and then throw it down over the entire team. The best part is, no other Knicks player moves to help on defense.
The New York Knicks everybody!
No. 8: The Facial
8 of 15Blake Griffin can handle the ball and owns an array of moves around the basket.
Just check out this crossover before a quick move towards the hoop and the explosive leap that follows.
No. 7: Monster Jam
9 of 15If you watch Blake Griffin, a lot of plays run for him are off of the pick and roll.
You'd think that people would catch on, but the Minnesota Timberwolves found out the hard way. Griffin cuts hard off of the pick and, as he goes up, there's an unfortunate victim waiting for him under the basket and he got jammed on.
I'd make a David Kahn joke here, but you know the drill.
Sorry, I just can't resist.
KAHNNNNNNNNNN!!!!
No. 6: Preseason Slam
10 of 15Even before he played in his first regular-season game, Blake Griffin was making highlight reels.
In a preseason game last year against the Los Angeles Lakers, Griffin dunked all up on D.J. Mbenga and let people know that he was going to be a force to be reckoned with. I hope that his publicist helped hide some of these YouTube postings.
Mbenga has two championship rings and that will conclude your depressing news portion of today.
No. 5: Steal Leads To A Reverse
11 of 15I remember when the Detroit Pistons used to be good.
Now they're getting dunked on like this and what impresses me the most is his body control. For a big guy, he just finds a way to contort his body on the fly to make these amazing plays and I think we're going to see more people at Clippers games if he keeps playing like this.
He's must-see at this point. Who wouldn't want to go see him play?
No. 4: Block To The Jam
12 of 15Blake Griffin isn't just a one-hit wonder when it comes to his game.
First he makes the play on the defensive end with the block and then he dishes the ball out and gets it back for an insane leap and the jam. He leaps from so far out, he just hangs for what seems like forever before slamming it with insane force.
You know you're doing something when you get the ooh's and ahh's from the crowd.
No. 3: Debut Dunk
13 of 15Blake Griffin's first points as an NBA player came off of a big alley-oop.
Not only that, but he reaches way back for the ball and throws it through the net. That's not a bad way to start your career off if you're a rookie. I was watching that game and that kind of play sends you out of your seat.
It was a beast in that game and it set the tone for this season.
No. 2: Spin Move To The Dunk
14 of 15The defining moment of the season was Blake Griffin's game against the Knicks.
This was one of the biggest jams of the year and the spin move that he puts on Danilo Gallinari is just disgusting. Gallinari just got spun all around and I think that he's still looking around for Griffin. He just seems to top himself every time out.
I wouldn't be shocked to see the road arenas start to fill up when Griffin comes to town.
No. 1: Posterization
15 of 15You knew it had to be this play.
Now you may be thinking that it's not exactly a dunk, and that's true. He throws it through the rim like Dwight Howard's Superman dunk. Only he did it in live game action. It's going to be every Blake Griffin poster for a couple of years.
Not only that, but he puts his hand in Timofey Mozgov's face as he throws it through the rim. What a disgusting play.
