Nuggets Sign Lonnie Walker IV amid Salary Cap Issues, SG Spent Last Season in EuroLeague

The Denver Nuggets are reportedly signing veteran guard Lonnie Walker IV to a one-year, $3.3 million deal, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

He spent the 2025-26 season playing overseas for the EuroLeague's Maccabi Tel Aviv, averaging 15.2 points per game.

It's no secret that the Nuggets find themselves in a rough position as it pertains to the luxury tax, with Spencer Jones' contract and Peyton Watson's ongoing restricted free agency leaving them on the hook for a serious tax penalty:

That meant any additions this summer were going to be of the bargain-bin variety. The only external additions have been Walker, Marvin Bagley III and Alpha Diallo in free agency and second-round pick Trevon Brazile during June's NBA draft. None will move the needle much.

Walker, 27, last played in the NBA during the 2024-25 season for the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 20 games. He largely played for the team down the stretch, as the injury-ravaged Sixers were without their stars players and were playing out the string.

Walker was the No. 18 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft and had stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and the Sixers, averaging 10 points per game during his career.

He'll provide backcourt depth for the Nuggets, though it seems unlikely he'll crack the regular rotation.
