MMA Hall of Fame

Jaime MorenoSep 1, 2008

So for some reason, I've been thinking a lot about who would make the "first ballot" if an independent company or organization had an MMA Hall of Fame.  Just think if WAMMA were to really make a name for itself and created one.

Now, there would have to be some criteria.  For example, they would have to have more than 25 fights, have been a world champion, or changed the way people fought.

Also we could add some trainers, referees, and organizational people.

Here we have the starting list:

1. Royce Gracie

If he isn't No. 1, then who is?  I could write 50 pages about him, but I won't.

2. Randy Couture

Anyone who is a five-time UFC champion in two different weight classes is going to be in here without question.  He is also one of a few fighter/trainers in the lot with his world-renowned gym Xtreme Couture.

3. Bas Rutten

This King of Pancrase is a God among men and another sure inductee.  Aside from his fighting, he has invented his own striking system and is a worldly trainer.

4. Masakatsu Funaki

Most of us think Bas Rutten and the Shamrock brother when we think Pancrase, but you must also say Funaki.  Although in his most recent fights he hasn't done so well, in his prime he was the best Japanese fighter period.

5. Pat Miletich

He makes the list for being a former world champ, but more so for being one of the best trainers in the world.  His MFS camp is home to multiple world champions and current MMA superstars.

6. Dana White

He is easily the most influential person in all of MMA.  Love him or hate him, he has made MMA a legitimate sport to the mass media and a global phenomenon.

7. "Big" John McCarthy

The most recognizable figure in MMA that is not a fighter.  The head referee of the UFC for most of its existence, he was involved in some of the most memorable moments in MMA's history.

8. Dan Severn

Besides Royce Gracie, Severn is the most famous MMA fighter ever.  His career has spanned almost 15 years, and his wins have come over every famed fighter in the US.

9. Rudimar Fedrigo

Founder of Chute Boxe, he is one of the most influential figures in Brazilian MMA history.  Chute Boxe was home to some of the most feared fighters in Vale Tudo in Brazil and Pride FC.

10. Kazushi Sakuraba

The Gracie Hunter is one of the most recognizable Japanese fighters ever.  His fights with the Gracies and Wanderlei Silva are legendary in Pride, along with a memorable fight with another MMA Hall of Famer Masakatsu Funaki.

Now I know that I'm missing a ton of people so this is where you, the readers, come in.  Let me know who else should be on here and why and they could be on the next list.

NOTE: There are two people who are here for their training abilities.  So don't just name fighters, but also others who are important to the sport.
