Andre Berto Could Beat Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather or Shane Mosley

Colin LinneweberNov 29, 2010

WBC welterweight champion Andre “The Beast” Berto demolished fringe contender “El Riel” Freddy Hernandez with a brutal first round TKO victory Saturday night at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“My knockout was pretty vicious,” said Berto, 26. “It may open up eyes a little bit.”

Berto (27-0, 21 KOs), a two-time National Golden Gloves winner who captured 22 state titles in Florida, was scheduled to fight “Sugar” Shane Mosley last January.

Sadly, Berto decided to withdraw 10 days before the bout occurred after eight members of his family were killed in the devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti two weeks into the New Year.

Berto was born in Miami.

Nevertheless, “The Beast” is a proud Haitian-American who represented Haiti at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Berto’s dominating victory over Hernandez (29-2-0-1, 20 KOs) was particularly impressive because “El Riel” is a worthy adversary who is the current WBC Latino welterweight champion.

Berto now rightfully covets a bout versus an elite welterweight prizefighter like iconic pugilist Manny Pacquiao, former WBA champion Mosley or past titlist Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Berto is talented enough to trump any of the aforementioned prizefighters on a given evening and, considering his youthfulness, he likely will only continue to hone his craft.

Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), the first boxer to capture 10 world titles in eight separate weight divisions, is an otherworldly scrapper who seems virtually unbeatable at this juncture.

However, Berto possesses immense power in both of his fists, and he would enter a contest against Pacquiao with the definition of a puncher's chance to emerge victorious.

Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), the winner of nine belts in five different weight classes, is categorically one of the best all-around boxers to ever enter the squared circle.

Unfortunately, Mayweather’s confidence is fabricated, and he will surely avoid Berto to ensure that his unblemished mark remains.

Mosley (46-6-1-1, 39 KOs) is more spent than an 80-year-old prostitute and he needs to retire his gloves before he further disgraces his legacy.

“The Beast” has become a very popular fighter in the Boston area because Massachusetts has the third-largest Haitian population in the United States and is home to approximately 70,000 to 80,000 Haitians.

Haitians initially began moving to the “Bay State” in the 1950s primarily due to its employment opportunities and quality education system.

The largest contingent of Haitians is located in the Boston neighborhoods of Mattapan, Dorchester, Hyde Park and Roxbury.

It is now evident that “Fat Joe” will receive an offer to pose in Playboy before Pacquiao meets Mayweather in the ring.

Therefore, the only viable candidates to face Pacquiao are Berto, WBC and Ring magazine middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs) and WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KOs).

All three combatants can make a legitimate argument they deserve to battle Pacquiao.

No matter, rest assured that many Bostonian’s will be hoping Berto is provided the chance of a lifetime to dethrone the spectacular Pacquiao.
