Forget John Wall, Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin is Rookie of the Year

Ethan NorofNov 28, 2010

All those that projected John Wall as favorite to win Rookie of the Year this season overlooked one huge factor: Blake Griffin.

After exploding onto the NBA scene with an opening night line of 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists, it's easy to see why Griffin has impressed so many with his supreme athleticism.

Regularly making highlight-reel plays and looking like he's got springs in his shoes, Griffin's ability to get above the rim is unlike any other in the NBA. Already one of the premier big men in the Western Conference, if not the entire league, it appears that the young man's future is unbelievably bright.

Despite some complaining that he doesn't provide enough peripheral statistics, the rookie has scored in double-digits in every single game and put up double-digit rebounds in 11 of his first 18 career games. Averaging just a shade over 20 points per contest and almost 12 boards to pair it with, Griffin has not only been one of the only bright spots for the Clippers, but he's been the reason that their fans continue to fill the building.

While John Wall of the Wizards has undoubtedly been impressive, Griffin has been a nightly appearance on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays and doesn't appear ready to cease his prolific production anytime soon. In fact, Griffin has gotten stronger and has been an absolute beast over his last five games, which were cued with a 44-point, 15 rebound outburst back on November 20 against the Knicks.

Just how good has BG been, though? Well, he has a higher scoring average than comparable big men Brook Lopez, Chris Bosh, LaMarcus Aldridge and even Kevin Love.

He's been downright superhuman, looking like a man among boys despite being one of the youngest on the hardwood. The hype that surrounded him for so long was clearly for real.

This kid has serious potential to go down as one of the best bigs ever, but he's still got a long road ahead for him to even be considered for that elite circle.

The Rookie of the Year Award would be a major step in the right direction.
