Mayweather Forecast: Is Floyd's Ego About To Bring the Rain on His Own Parade?
Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. losing relevance?
With Pacquiao having hammered his way through Antonio Margarito, and Sergio Martinez's immense upset over Williams, boxing is swallowed in a sea of excitement as the best pound for pound fighters are showing that their stripes are indeed “well earned.”
The question to ask right now is controversial at best and disrespectfully off the mark at worst, but... is Mayweather soon on his way to becoming irrelevant in this sport?
Think about it carefully and systematically; Mayweather continues to dodge Pacquiao regardless of how many wins are under his belt, and Pacquiao moves on, continually etching one truth into the hearts of boxing fans; Pacquiao is indeed the “people’s champion.” With his charisma, his lovable gentleman-like sportsmanship, and his political involvement, no one can deny that Manny is one charming individual.
Not only is he the champion of the people, but of the sport in general. With a work ethic that will put many to shame, blinding fast speed and teeth shattering power, Pacman is proving to be one of the greatest fighters since (dare I say it) Muhammad Ali.
Then on the other side, with Martinez and his powerful obliteration of Williams, the boxing fans have another reason to move their gaze away from Floyd.
After these two headlining battles, boxing fans have not seen fair future match-ups for Floyd, but reasons for Mayweather to retire. Floyd is either going to duck himself out of popularity with the games he plays with Pacquiao, or finally agree to facing Manny in an apocalyptic slugfest that will surely end in Floyd’s first loss.
Either way, he is pushing himself off of his own throne, and soon enough, the public will have accepted the inevitable and move on.
Pacman will go on to take whatever fights come his way. Martinez and all the other up-and-comers will continue to show their hunger to become the best, and Mayweather will still sit on his “O.”
Impressive record, Mayweather, but does that “O” mean anything when you play it as safe as you do? Wouldn’t it be sweeter to fight and beat the one fighter everyone agrees will actually give you a run for your “Money?”
