Bernard Hopkins Peddling Shane Mosley for Manny Pacquiao
Legendary boxer Bernard Hopkins is making a case against Manny Pacquiao by saying on record that Pacquiao “has not fought a top African-American Boxer” and that “Mayweather would pot-shot Pacquiao and bust him up in the later rounds”.
Quite a statement for somebody who went also for the record a few months ago saying “Pacquiao is the P4P King” and that against Hatton, “He (Pacquiao) is a Ferrari against a top Honda”. Fans would wonder what happened to those praises when after the Hatton Fight, Pacquiao would go on and destroy bigger and tougher guys like Cotto, Clotey and most recently a thorough beat-down of the giant Margarito.
Truth be told that Pacman is fearless and would fight anybody that Bob Arum puts in front of him regardless of style, race and size. So where on earth did this statement and assertion stemmed from especially coming from someone who seems to have become a Pacquiao believer since the Hatton-Pacquiao build-up until after the Margarito fight? Is he siding Golden Boy to lure a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao?
Not exactly. Let us not forget that while GBP benefits from a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, GBP will only be earning so much as a co-promoter and that Hatton before the retirement was under the GBP stable, yet Hopkins predicted that it was Pacquiao who will dominate a bigger and game Hatton.
The fact is, Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley are bosom buddies and both men are part-owners of GBP. Owing from the so many legal issues Mayweather is now facing and the uncertainty whether Money truly wants a piece of Manny, it is only logical that he tries his hand in peddling a fight by building enough public interest for Pacman to accept a showdown against his fading African-American buddy who can fall under the so-called “Top African-American Boxer” category. It would be the most lucrative fight for Mosley and may be enough for him to finally call it a day, after all if not Mosley, who else has a closer chance of matching the Filipino Pride’s great talent that fits well as a slick African-American? Only B-Hop knows.
