Fantasy Football Week 12: Biggest Bargains for the Final Weeks
Ben Roethlisberger and Greg Jennings were the fantasy darlings of this week, with Big Ben going for a whopping 34 points, and Jennings grabbing three touchdowns piled on 33.
While neither of these players would be available in any league, there are still quite a few players out there that will both be available and could be able to fill some holes on your squad.
The final weeks of the season are among us, and if you are stagnant near the middle of your fantasy football league and are looking to fill some holes, patch together a lineup, or just shake things up a bit, here are some players to look at that could get you over the hump.
So rather than yelling at your television on Sunday that Brett Favre should have retired after last season so you didn't get stuck with him this year, check out the free agents list, and try something creative.
Nate Burleson WR Detroit Lions
1 of 10
Burleson is available in over 70% of ESPN leagues and has had some great weeks as of late.
He was been targeted endlessly with Calvin Johnson getting double-covered frequently and is going up against one of the lesser secondary's in the league this Sunday against the Patriots and plays a few more weak defenses along the way.
He should see a handful of targets against New England and could see a downfield target or two if he can shake the one-on-one coverage that he should see from time to time.
Burleson is a great option to have this week, and will be a good receiver to have coming off the bench for the rest of the season.
Matt Cassel QB Kansas City Chiefs
2 of 10
Through the rest of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs don't play a team that is above .500 as of right now.
Their quarterback, who, mind you, has 18 touchdowns and only four interceptions, is available in half of all leagues.
If you are struggling with a mediocre quarterback and need someone who has the potential to put up a big performance for you, think about Cassel, as he has six multi-touchdown games and has put up a QB rating over 100 five times this year.
Brian Hartline WR Miami Dolphins
3 of 10
The Miami Dolphins receiver is getting more and more lucrative as the team continues to lose games and Brandon Marshall potentially missing time with a sore hamstring.
Marshall has consistently grabbed four or five catches a week since their bye in week five, but he hasn't scored a touchdown since the second week of the season.
Plus, Hartline has big play potential, as he has eight catches of 20+ yards this season, the most on the team.
If Marshall does miss time Hartline becomes the go-to guy.
Troy Smith QB San Francisco 49ers
4 of 10
At first glance, Smith doesn't look like a lucrative fantasy option at quarterback, as he only has three games under his belt this season and against a decent team he looked overwhelmed at times.
However, Smith spends the rest of the season in the season playing teams with less than stellar pass defenses, as he plays Arizona twice, Seattle, and St. Louis in four of their last six games.
Plus, he should be playing with motivation next week, as he is likely playing for his job and will be on a national stage on Monday Night Football.
Along with that, he is always a threat to run for a touchdown if given the chance.
Oakland Raiders D/ST
5 of 10
Despite their less than stellar performance against Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers last week, the Raiders have posted good numbers since they decided to play good football.
Since week five, they have played 4-2 football and averaged 12 fantasy points per game since then.
They are turning back to the fearsome defense that they had been in the past, and are forcing fumbles at a ridiculous pace, recovering ten so far this season.
They have a juicy match-up this week against the Dolphins, a team looking for a quarterback, and would be a good team to start in a few more weeks along the way.
Plus they have quarterbacks scared of talking trash ever since Richard Seymour layed the smack down on Roethlisberger in the form of a vicious man slap on Sunday.
James Jones WR Green Bay Packers
6 of 10
How this guy has not been picked up in more leagues is beyond me, as he is currently sitting at less than 10% ownership around ESPN.
Jones, ever since Donald Driver aggravated his quadriceps over a month ago, has been terrific.
He should continue to be able to command a handful of targets a game as he has proven himself to be a valuable piece to this team.
Jones has three double-digit point games in the past four, and looks to continue on this pace as he is consistently burning DBs and has a reception of at least 30 yards in five games this season.
Keiland Williams RB Washington Redskins
7 of 10
Williams is one of the few running backs who is available that looks to have a good impact on the fantasy game over the next few weeks.
With Ryan Torian and Clinton Portis both hobbled, Williams looks to get the majority of the hand-offs for the Redskins this Sunday.
Williams, against two of the better rush defenses in the league, has posted good numbers in back-to-back weeks.
Look for a repeat this against the Vikings on Sunday and for the rest of the season if he holds the starting spot for Washington the rest of the way.
Cleveland Browns D/ST
8 of 10
The Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, this is the next four weeks for the Browns.
They have been pushing teams to the limit each week and have been able to grab handfuls of fantasy points on any given week, against a good or bad offense.
They are capable of taking the ball away from an offense in bunches and can capitalize on any mistake as of late.
They put up 21 points against Jacksonville on Sunday, plus they play Carolina this weekend, who has given up the most points to defenses, by far, this season.
Phil Dawson K Cleveland Browns
9 of 10
Kickers can be a crapshoot, but if you want to play trends and numbers, then Phil Dawson could be the kicker to pick up.
Of the teams who give up the most kicking points per week, Phil Dawson and the Browns play five of the bottom 12 in the final six weeks of the season.
If that isn't worth a gamble then who really knows what is.
Mike Goodson RB Carolina Panthers
10 of 10
If it weren't for the fact that he was on the Carolina Panthers, I would totally be on the Mike Goodson bandwagon.
The Panthers offense is so bad that it seems impossible that any player on their team could be worth picking up, but Goodson just may be worth it.
With a struggling pass game and DeAngelo Williams done for the season, Goodson should be productive for the rest of the season.
Goodson should get a handful of carries, as the Panthers probably won't lean too much on Brian St. Pierre to quarterback them to a win for the rest of the season, giving him the opportunity to accumulate a good amount of points for the rest of the season.
