Michael Vick: Should His Past Mistakes Precede Him?

Montique DavidNov 18, 2010

Everybody loves a comeback right?

Michael Vick decided to make the Washington Redskins look like a Junior Varsity team on the single most-watched TV show on Monday nights.

Unlike most blowouts, you had to just sit and continue to watch. It was poetry in motion seeing him run through his progressions and then decide whether to pick apart the secondary or strike fear in the linebackers. It was an awesome game, and this is coming from a Giants fan.

Then the next day I'm watching SportsCenter and the first thing they show is Vick in a suit, going to court.

Really?

Have you ever made a mistake, then pay for it, and then have somebody bring it up when you're doing good? Sucks, doesn't it?

What I'm simply saying is, let it go. The funny thing about this world is that nobody on it is perfect. We all make mistakes and do dumb things from time to time.

Michael Vick lost millions of dollars and spent two years of his life behind bars for his mistake. Isn't that enough?

Or is it a given that no matter how incredible he plays on the field, he'll always be preceded by his mistake of fighting dogs.

This isn't an argument over dog fighting, because that's a totally different article, but it's the fact that we should just enjoy Vick as a player and realize that he has done his time in prison and has paid his debt to society.

I'm not going to praise or completely rip him on something he has done in his past, because like I said, none of us are in any position to judge. None of us.

But let the person who has made no mistakes be the first person who judges him.

What he did was bad. That's a given. But the man has paid his dues. He's done his time and he's free again and has worked hard to be where he is now: on top of the NFL.

It's nothing short of amazing that he is where he is today after making such a huge mistake and placing his entire career in jeopardy. So let's just let it go and enjoy the game of football.

Ray Lewis allegedly stabbed someone to death in 2000, and the white suit he was wearing was never found. He even admitting to misleading police. I never see a vignette on that after the Ravens win.

My point is, let's just let what he did go. We can't change it. He can't change it.

The truth is that dog fighting is a whole lot bigger than anybody realizes. This is an underground sport and there's nothing that's going to stop it anytime soon. It's definitely cruel and not in human nature to train dogs to rip each other apart.

But there is a point where we must stop preceding Vick's current play with his past mistake. He's the front runner for MVP and playing better than any quarterback in the NFL so far this season. Don't believe me? Just look at the QB rating and compare the stats.

He's moved on from the past. He's had arguably the fastest fall from grace of anybody in the history of sports and now he's back on top. Maybe we should be cheering this latest act of the Mike Vick experience.

After all, we all love a comeback, right?
