The Ashes: England Draw With South Australia in Second Warm-Up Match

After beating Western Australia by six wickets England travelled to the Adelaide Oval for the second of three warm-up matches before the Ashes officially starts.

South Australia, like England's first opponents included players in and around the international set-up like, Callum Ferguson, Peter George and Graham Manou.

England won the toss and looked in a bit of danger at 95-4 but Paul Collingwood's 94 and Ian Bell's 61 dug them out of a potential hole to post 288-8 declared.

The pick of the bowlers was George with 3-65.

The bowlers will have no complaints as South Australia were bowled out for 221. Aiden Blizzard top scored with 49 and was one of four wickets for Graeme Swann (4-68).

James Anderson (3-62), Steven Finn (2-47) and Stuart Broad (1-41) all got in on the wicket-taking act.

England's second innings batting effort would have pleased the coaches as they made 240-1 at 4.61 runs per over. Andrew Strauss the only man out for 102 while Alastair Cook finished unbeaten on 111.

South Australia were set 308 to win but time was the only winner as they finished on 48-2 and the match ended in a draw.

The second warm-up match completed and England will be happier regarding their batting. Strauss and Cook both made centuries in the second innings and the middle order looked strong in the first innings recovery.

The bowlers did themselves no harm in the time they had before they go to Brisbane to prepare for the First Test while the second string get their chance in the final warm-up game against Australia A.

Australia announced their 17-man Ashes squad with the only surprise omission being Phillip Hughes. While unfamiliar names such as Usman Khawaja and Xavier Docherty were included. 

The squad, which is bigger than England's touring squad for the entire series, will be trimmed to 12 or 13 after domestic matches.

Australia Squad: Simon Katich, Shane Watson, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Marcus North, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Brad Haddin, Steven Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Xavier Doherty, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and Doug Bollinger.
