Oscar De La Hoya in Grand Comeback Bid Against British Boxer Ricky Hatton
British boxer Ricky Hatton has just been offered a date with legendary American boxer Oscar de la Hoya for a mega fight in the United Kingdom.
Robert Diaz, an executive of Golden Boy Promotions sounded the offer to Hatton in his visit to Manchester, England during the Haye-Harrison fight a few days ago.
Diaz said: 'This would be a huge event which we believe would fill a football ground here in England.'
Hatton has not responded officially to the offer from Golden Boy Promotions for the proposed mega fight in England.
Hatton has not fought since his last devastating loss to Manny Pacquiao almost two years ago in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight ended abruptly in the second round after Pacquiao pummeled Hatton with with a flurry of devastating punches that sent the British boxer to the canvas unconscious for several minutes.
Ricky Hatton's second round humiliating loss to Filipino Manny Pacquiao in 2009 is taking its toll on the life of the former world boxing champion as he starts putting his life back on track inside a rehab center in Manchester, England.
The former welterweight champion of the world traces his depression and related problems after his unofficial retirement following his loss to Pacquiao which temporarily ended his boxing career.
Hatton was caught on video snorting cocaine during a binge drinking session in Manchester, England.
His devastating loss to Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao over a year ago marked the beginning of his involvement in drugs and alcohol.
“I’ve been an idiot and I’m so sorry and ashamed. I need and want to sort myself out", Hatton told his fiancee before committing himself to rehab.
Hatton has reportedly been exercising and striving to reign back his old booze and binge habits between fights.
Before accepting the Golden Boy offer, Hatton has to sort out his legal problem with the British boxing regulating body which suspended his boxing license following his deep involvement in drugs.
Like Hatton, Oscar de la Hoya was also demolished by Pacquiao in 2008, sending the legendary boxer to retirement for good.
However, his handlers believe a fitting last fight is just proper for the former US Olympian and that ring comeback should take place in England with Ricky Hatton as his opponent.
