Donovan McNabb Will Respond to Benching by Trouncing Eagles at Washington
The Washington Redskins already defeated the Philadelphia Eagles once this year and on a national stage, they will get a chance to do it again. Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb beat his former team in the first meeting of the season by a final score of 17-12, and McNabb was the talk of the town.
The latest NFL sports betting odds for this game, as posted by online sportsbook BetMania, have the Eagles listed as three point favorites and the total set at 42.5.
McNabb is a hot topic again in the nation’s capital, but for a much different reason. In his last outing against the Lions, McNabb was benched by head coach Mike Shanahan in the waning minutes of the game in favor of Rex Grossman. The decision did not work for the Redskins, as Grossman fumbled the ball and the Lions held on for the victory.

After the game, Shanahan was criticized for the move and he seemingly struggled to come up with excuses for the benching. In the weeks that would follow, McNabb was accused of being out of shape and unfamiliar with the two minute offense. McNabb laughed off the comments while trying to remain professional about the situation.
McNabb has a history of responding well to a benching. He was benched one other time in his career and he responded the following week against Arizona and threw four touchdown passes, igniting his team to a successful playoff run.
In the first meeting with the Eagles, McNabb was not the only reason the Redskins left with a victory. The running game and the defense were what propelled the Redskins to a victory. The Skins outrushed Philly 169-110 and dominated the front line of the Philly defense. Quarterback Michael Vick was knocked out of the game by a bone crushing hit he absorbed on the goal line.
The Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven against the NFC, 0-5 ATS in their last five games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
The Redskins are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games following a bye week.
My prediction: the Redskins dominate the line of scrimmage and McNabb leads the Redskins to a series sweep of his former team at home under the Monday night lights.
