Manny Pacquiao: Why Latest Win Means Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight Won't Happen
Manny Pacquiao dominated Antonio Margarito last night in a unanimous decision in a fight that should have been stopped long before the final bell.
Pacquiao pleaded with the ref to stop the fight as Margarito's eye was swollen shut and was struggling badly. It was dumb of Margarito's corner not to throw in the towel or for the doctor to stop the fight.
After the fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s name came up yet again and Pacquiao didn't seem like he cared too much about getting in the ring with the undefeated Mayweather. Inside you'll find 10 reasons this fight won't happen any time soon.

No. 10: Long Layoff for Mayweather
1 of 10
Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn't fought since May, when he beat Shane Mosley by unanimous decision.
That is a long time for a fighter to take off and jump into a fight against a fighter of Manny Pacquiao's caliber. I think Mayweather would try to avoid a scenario like that. He's always fought against lesser opponents after layoffs, which has been a knock on him.
No. 9: Other Responsiblities
2 of 10
Manny Pacquiao has branched out from boxing the more and more his celebrity has grown.
Pacquiao is making a lot more appearances that have nothing to do with boxing and finds himself on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live singing John Lennon's "Imagine" with Will Ferrell. While that was hilarious, he's also a politician in his native Philippines.
He's got more on his plate than Floyd Mayweather Jr.
No. 8: Cross-Promotion
3 of 10
To get this fight done, it's going to have to be done with a joint venture between Bob Arum's Top Rank and Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.
To be blunt, these two sides are not fond of each other. At all. Manny Pacquiao used to be part of de la Hoya's operation but Arum swooped in and brought him to Top Rank. Golden Boy sued him for breach of contract after Pacquiao returned his signing bonus.
I wouldn't want to be at the negotiating table with those two promotions.
No. 7: Pacquiao's Indifference
4 of 10
After the fight last night, there was the inevitable question. When asked about Floyd Mayweather Jr., he didn't seem like he was too eager to jump into the ring with Mayweather.
“If the fight happens, it happens, but I don’t need him (Mayweather),” said Pacquiao to the media after the fight.
You can't really blame him after all that's been said and all of the posturing from both sides. After all, at this point, he has much more to lose than Mayweather.
No. 6: Freddie Roach
5 of 10
Freddy Roach, Manny Pacquiao's trainer, was asked about the possibility of fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he wasn't too optimistic about it.
“I don't think it will ever happen. Nope. It will be one of those fights we're never going to see," Roach told Yahoo Sports. “We wanted the fight so badly. We agreed to have everything. And that didn't happen because Floyd doesn't wanna fight Manny—that’s the bottom line."
It would certainly seem like that to some, but I'm sure this is only going to fuel the fire between the two parties.
No. 5: Shane Mosley
6 of 10
After the fight last night, Bob Arum said that Shane Mosley could be the next opponent for Manny Pacquiao if the fighter and Floyd Mayweather Jr. couldn't come to terms on a fight.
The statement was odd, seeing as Mosley is a part of Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy promotions, but Arum said that the fighter is acting as a boxing free agent.
Who knows if Arum was bluffing or not, but it's not the fight everyone wants to see.
No. 4: No Tuneup Fight for Mayweather
7 of 10
Floyd Mayweather Jr. would obviously like to have a fight to get himself ready for a fighter of Manny Pacquiao's caliber, and that hasn't happened.
In ideal circumstances, Mayweather would have had a fight close to Pacquiao's fight against Antonio Margarito in order to have them both ready to go for each other. With the way Mayweather has been negotiating, I don't see a fight with Money Mayweather as Manny's next fight.
Maybe the fight after, but only if Mayweather can get a fight in before then.
No. 3: Mayweather's Legal Troubles
8 of 10
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has found himself in some legal trouble because of a domestic dispute with the mother of his children.
Mayweather has a lot going on outside of boxing and it's a distraction that he can't afford to be having when he's fighting a guy like Manny Pacquiao. If he comes in without 100 percent focus, Pacquiao will knock his head clear off.
I think that this may keep Mayweather out of the ring for a bit.
No. 2: Recovery From Fight
9 of 10
Manny Pacquiao just got through a fight where he fought an opponent that was bigger than him and even though he dominated him, there needs to be a recovery period.
Pacquiao has plans to fight down the line, but if that doesn't match up with Mayweather's timeline, don't expect Pacquiao to do him any favors to help slide him into the schedule, regardless of the potential payday involved.
It just doesn't seem like this fight has a chance of happening any time soon.
No. 1: Drug Test Debate
10 of 10
The biggest thing that has surrounded the fight is the debate about drug testing prior to the fight.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has done a good job of making it seem like Manny Pacquiao is a cheater—something that has not pleased Pacquiao in the least bit. Mayweather wants Olympic-style drug testing—something Pacquiao has balked on.
That will be the biggest hurdle toward this fight happening.
