Top Five Things So Very Clever Guy's Girls Need To Know About Cam Newton
As we enter Week 11, there are some really interesting things So Very Clever Guy’s Girls can talk about.
Here are the Top Five things you should know about the Cam Newton Scandal. Why? Because he is the front runner for the Heisman Trophy, and that is a BIG deal—especially given the Reggie Bush scandal that unfurled this year.
I PROMISE you, this is going to be a HUGE topic of conversation this weekend—so given the information in this article, I suggest you form an opinion—do not argue, just offer it.
Guys HATE being argued with—especially about sports. There is a difference between a spirited debate and an argument. If you don't know the difference, you should read more from the So Very Clever blog.
The Heisman Hootie Haw

The Heisman race isn’t heating up (it's becoming bizarre). If the vote were two weeks ago, it would have been a no-brainer.
My hopeful dropped out early after lighting the world on fire; Denard Robinson will have to work on strengthening and conditioning in the off season and come back stronger next year. It might help as well if the team doesn’t rely on him to win the games. Here’s a hint for the defensive coordinator: stop the
opposing team’s offense, and you might not have to beat your quarterback to death running up the score.
However, two weeks have passed, and a mushroom cloud of suspicious is forming over Cam Newton. To catch you up, Cam was the back up quarterback for Heisman winner Tim Tebo at Florida? There was an arrest related to a stolen laptop computer and three accusations of academic cheating. He left there and attended a junior college in Texas, allegedly to avoid being brought up on charges for the cheating.
It Takes More Than a Scholarship? We Should All Be So Lucky

There is some speculation that his father told Mississippi State that it would require more than a scholarship to get Cam to play for them.
There was supposedly a phone call, made by Cam to the officials at Mississippi State informing them that he would be playing for Auburn because the money was too good to turn down.
Now, this is a bombshell.
In this one reported phone call, the NCAA violations are serious. Not only is a player not allowed to accept money, the schools are NEVER allowed to offer a player money—no matter how Cleverly it is packaged.
Urban Meyer Gasps Aloud

Now, how much is real and how much is trumped up? In this, you must consider not only the sources but their motivations.
There is a chance the unbeaten Auburn would play Florida in an SEC championship game—this leak of academic fraud comes at an interesting time.
Florida coach, Urban Meyer has denied the information came from anyone on his staff or within the football program. While he has wondered aloud what he might have to gain if the information came to light. Hmmm. I can think of a few things.
To Bench Or Not to Bench- That Is a Good Quesiton

Auburn has a choice right now, albeit a tough one.
They could bench Cam, until he is either proven innocent or guilty but the ramifications of a move like that are huge. It is not out of the line to ask whether Auburn would be undefeated with a different quarterback at the helm, or if it is feasible they’d end up in a championship game without him playing the balance of the season.
That said—if, they won the SEC championship and went on to secure a national title, and even win the Heisman—those titles could all be stripped if he were found guilty. The timing is bad for the detractors because likely there is not enough time for any type of investigation to be completed before the Heisman voting takes place.
Integrity? Smoke? Fire

How does and how will this affect the voting? Well, that is an excellent question. The Heisman is awarded yearly by the Heisman Trophy Trust in NYC to the best college football player. There is more to it than that and the word “integrity” figures prominently for some that are lucky enough to have a vote.
Once a Cheater Always a Cheater?

So, what do we know for certain? He was arrested. As far as the cheating? Smoke—fire? Three accusations? Odd. Now the pay—for—play controversy?
If nothing else, this calls his integrity into question. So, if I had a ballot, I’d have to say, after the debacle that Reggie Bush caused and the remaining sanctions as yet undetermined for USC—it might be a good idea to vote for a candidate not drowning in speculation.
What is the answer? I don’t know. But, I'm not sure I still Stand With Cam.
