Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions, Down and Out in NFL Week 10 Fantasy Fallers

Brandon GalvinNov 11, 2010

Injuries may have provided opportunities for unknown players to shine in Week 9, but they were also the downfall for many as well.

Matthew Stafford looks to have suffered a season ending injury as the Lions will not want to rush him back.

Miles Austin is suffering from the loss of Tony Romo still as Jon Kitna fails to accurately get him the ball.

These are just two of the superstars falling fast in this week's edition.

QB

Matthew Stafford, DET

Once again, Stafford is hurt. He has looked fantastic in limited action but is failing to stay on the field. He is quickly earning the "injury-prone" label and is becoming unreliable. It is difficult to believe that the Lions will play their star quarterback of the future again this season. With their playoff chances waning, they have no need to rush him back.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Charlie Whitehurst, SEA: 12 for 23 (52.2 completion percentage), 113 yards, TD, 2 INT

Matt Schaub, HOU: 21 for 32 (65.6 completion percentage), 266 yards, INT

Chad Henne, MIA: 22 for 34 (64.7 completion percentage), 231 yards, 3 INT

Jon Kitna, DAL: 19 for 30 (63.3 completion percentage), 183 yards, TD, 2 INT

Matt Moore, CAR: Placed on Injured Reserve (Shoulder)

Last Week’s Falling QB in Week 8:

Donovan McNabb, WAS: BYE

RB

Cadillac Williams, TB

Cadillac Williams has lost a lot of touches to LeGarrette Blount over the past two weeks in efforts to keep him healthy for the entire season.

Williams carried the rock eight times and ran for just 13 yards. He also caught one pass for nine yards.

At this point, Williams is not even a decent flex option until his playing time increases again.

Ricky Williams, MIA

There are no reports that Williams is injured, but the lack of touches in Week 9 is concerning. Although they faced a tough Baltimore defense, it does not make sense that a running team that uses a committee decided not to for the week. Williams carried the ball twice for just one yard and failed to record a reception.

This is a situation to keep an eye on going forward.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Marshawn Lynch, SEA: 11 carries, 48 yards

Justin Forsett, SEA: 1 carry, -1 yards, 1 reception, 5 yards

Brandon Jacobs, NYG: Did not receive a carry

Beanie Wells, ARZ: 1 carry, -2 yards, 1 reception

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, NE: 9 carries, 14 yards

Last Week’s Falling RBs in Week 9:

Tim Hightower, ARZ: 13 carries, 39 yards

Jonathan Stewart, CAR: 5 carries, 30 yards, Fumble (Out Week 10)

WR

Wes Welker, NE

Welker started the season hot but has been poor ever since.

Welker has not been getting any more looks than usual now that Randy Moss is off the team. Welker needs somebody to stretch the field so that he can work underneath the coverage. Without that deep threat, defenses are focusing on Welker. Until the Patriots develop that threat, expect more four receptions for 36 yards games.

Miles Austin, DAL

Austin suffered from the dropsies the past few weeks but it is Jon Kitna who has been the death of his production.

Austin was very good with Tony Romo for the most part, but Kitna’s ineffectiveness has led to poor outings for Austin.

In Week 9, he caught just two passes for 16 yards.

Defenses shift to Austin this season after his breakout year in 2009, which is leaving more room for rookie Dez Bryant and tight end Jason Witten.

Do not expect many big outings from Austin going forward.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Anquan Boldin, BAL: 2 receptions, 28 yards

Calvin Johnson, DET: 1 receptions, 13 yards

Steve Smith, CAR: 1 reception, 9 yards

Pierre Garcon, IND: 2 receptions, 15 yards

Mike Williams, SEA: 2 receptions, 25 yards

Last Week’s Falling WRs in Week 9:

Randy Moss, TEN: BYE

Chad Ochocinco, CIN: 1 reception, 15 yards

TE

Brent Celek, PHI

Although he is healthier now, Celek did not see a rise in production. With Michael Vick back, Celek was lost in the mix once again. Vick’s new and improved field vision has him finding his receivers early and often. Vick used to find Alge Crumpler in Atlanta, but with quality receivers in Philadelphia, Celek is now overlooked in the offense.

Other Notable Performances and Notes:

Todd Heap, BAL: 2 reception, 23 yards

Heath Miller, PIT: 2 receptions, 39 yards

Jermaine Gresham, CIN: 2 receptions, 11 yards

John Carlson, SEA: 2 receptions, 9 yards

Ben Watson, CLE: 1 reception, 5 yards

Last Week’s Falling TE in Week 9:

Zach Miller, OAK: Inactive
