Brandon Marshall Guarantees the Dolphins Will Make Playoffs and Week 10 Picks

Thomas GaliciaNov 11, 2010

The Miami Dolphins have gone through a turbulent week.

Henne gets the hook for Pennington, yet Dan Henning, who should shoulder as much of the blame as Henne for the offense's poor start, still seems relatively blameless.

Then Jason Allen gets cut, and in comes Al Harris.

The Dolphins also face a tough Titans team at home, a place where they still have yet to win a game.

But for Brandon Marshall, none of the controversy and adversity surrounding the team in the last few weeks means that they're out of it.

In fact, he's feeling very confident about the team.

When asked if he's guaranteeing a playoff berth at a press conference today, his reply was, "Oh, yeah, absolutely."

I like seeing this kind of swagger, especially with a team so desperately lacking it. Marshall's confidence is still high despite what he calls "an up-and-down season."

But Marshall remains confident, stating: "Any minute now, we're going to put it all together."

Earlier this week, prior to Henne's benching, Marshall defended Henne on his radio show, stating:

"Chad Henne is a guy who's more than capable of being an All-Pro quarterback. Its just not him. His destiny is in the hands of others."

I took this as either a shot against Dan Henning (which would be refreshing, for the national media is defending him because of the fact that, by all accounts, he's a nice guy) but really it was a call to arms from everyone on the Dolphins offense, including himself.

For the Dolphins to have a reasonable shot at a playoff berth, they need to at worst finish 6-2, which is still possible.

But that starts this Sunday, with a win over Tennessee, which is where I'll start my NFL Week 10 picks.

HOME TEAM IN CAPS

Tennessee (-2) over MIAMI

Nope, it won't start this weekend. Chris Johnson will be contained, but I expect Randy Moss and Vince Young to become fast friends, well for this week at least.

Titans 24, Dolphins 15

TAMPA BAY (-7.5) over Carolina

The Panthers had some quarterback news of their own, as Jimmy Clausen was named the starting quarterback.

You almost have to feel for the Panthers, I mean, it's not like they had a chance to draft Colt McCoy, so Clausen was a desperation pick.

Wait, Clausen was chosen in the second round, and McCoy in the third?

Man, the Panthers are just bad.

Buccaneers 28, Panthers 6

BUFFALO (+2.5) over Detroit

Shaun Hill has actually been pretty good for Detroit, who have been the surest bet in the NFL this season (7-1 vs. the spread).

But Buffalo at home has to get a win sometime, and a Stafford-less Lions should do the trick, right?

Bills 17, Lions 14

JACKSONVILLE (-1) over Houston

Both teams are going to be desperate, the playoffs are within reach, and neither team wants to fall behind in the AFC South.

The Jaguars however as a team have played in bigger games over the past few years with this current team. They also possess a better defense, and right now I'd even say they have a better coach. Tough one to call, but I'm going with the Jags.

Jaguars 28, Texans 22

Minnesota (PK) over CHICAGO

Until I have tangible evidence that the Bears porous offensive line can keep Cutler upright, how could I pick against a team that still has Jared Allen, who's been awfully quiet this year?

I expect him, as well as the Williams wall, to blow up on Sunday against the Bears.

Vikings 24, Bears 10

New York Jets (-3) over CLEVELAND

I think the Jets looked long and hard at the Browns thrashing of the Patriots over the course of the week, and now know what to do. Plus Sanchez is really coming into his own.

See what happens when you show confidence in a quarterback?

Jets 32, Browns 28

INDIANAPOLIS (-8.5) over Cincinnati

The Bengals seemed to pick it up at the end of that Monday Night tilt with the Steelers; however, their deficiencies kept them from winning it.

It won't be as close on the road, especially when Peyton Manning could lead a team to the Super Bowl with me as their Tight End.

Colts 31, Bengals 14

Kansas City (-1) over DENVER

The Mile High Mystique left after John Elway retired and they knocked down the old Mile High Stadium for the new one. Plus, the Broncos are terrible.

Why are the Chiefs only favored by one when the Broncos might not be able to find a way to stop the Chiefs offense?

The Broncos are so bad that I'm going to quote a classic mid-90's commercial featuring the Chiefs ground crew: Great-Googly-Moogly!

Chiefs 28, Broncos 10

Dallas (+15.5) over NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS

I think the Cowboys come out with enough fire to not lose by 15. Instead it will be 14.

Giants 35, Cowboys 21

St. Louis (+6) over SAN FRANCISCO

The Rams are winning the NFC West. End of story.

Rams 27, 49ers 24

ARIZONA (-3) over Seattle

I will not trust the Seahawks after that thrashing at home against the Giants. I mean the Giants are Super Bowl good but dang, what was that?

Cardinals 24, Seahawks 17

WASHINGTON (+3) over Philadelphia

Because Donovan McNabb always seems to rise up when the criticism of him is the harshest. Plus how fitting would it be if the Eagles were kept out of the final NFC playoff spot because of their two losses to the Redskins? It's almost preordained to happen.

Redskins 27, Eagles 24

GAME OF THE WEEK

New England (+4) over PITTSBURGH

As good as this game looks and will be, the true game of the week was actually just played between the Falcons and Ravens (which is why I'm already 0-1 this week, I chose the Ravens.)

But will this game be as thrilling? I say yes, it comes down to a field goal.

Steelers 33, Patriots 30

This week: 0-1 (0-1 against the spread.)

Last week (vs. spread): 7-6 (7-5-1)

Overall (vs. spread): 72-58 (67-60-3)
