UFC 128 Headed To Abu Dhabi: Could Shogun vs. Evans Finally Happen?
The second time might be the charm for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Despite a few good fights on display, UFC 112 left the Abu Dhabi crowd with a sour taste in their mouths with a Matt Hughes-Renzo Gracie bout that went longer than hoped, a BJ Penn-Frankie Edgar showdown marred somewhat in controversy, and a UFC Middleweight title defense that many feel could have passed for a Dancing With The Stars audition tape for the show's next season.
MMA Weekly's Damon Martin reports that perhaps that taste wasn't sour enough to keep the premier MMA organization in the world out of the the United Arab Emirates.
As a matter of fact, the event would be welcome enough to provide the UFC with a situation that would see them put on back-to-back overseas events for their worldwide audience.
UFC 128 will see the event return to Abu Dhabi in the same way they looked to enter the country this past April, right down to the venue which will once again be the Ferrari World Arena for this promising card.
No fights have been scheduled for the card yet, but the interesting matter about this card is that the event will be slated to happen on March 19.
Why is that interesting?
Because current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has been widely rumored to return sometime in March, thus keeping a definite fight with current title contender and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion "Suga" Rashad Evans alive.
If the champ is cleared to go at UFC 128, that which the fans have been craving could come to fruition at long last.
