Cameron Newton, LaMichael James and the Top NCAA 2010 Heisman Trophy Candidates

Frank FittipaldiNov 6, 2010

Quarterback: Cameron Newton, Auburn

Auburn's quarterback Cameron Newton has been the most important to his team out of all the candidates. Newton puts Auburn in National Title contention and has put up some big numbers this season. Newton has thrown for 1,573 yards with 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

This 6'6" 250-pound junior has stepped up for Auburn Tigers and has himself as the front runner to win the Heisman Trophy.

Running Back: LaMichael James, Oregon

Oregon running back LaMichael James has been the most dominant running back in the NCAA this season. James' big play ability has allowed him to run all over the Pac-10 and have him in contention to win the Heisman Trophy. James has run for 1,210 yards with 14 touchdowns so far this season. James' season includes three games where he rushed over 220 yards.

James is a strong candidate to win the Heisman.

Quarterback: Andrew Luck, Stanford

Stanford quarterback comes in at third in Heisman contention, and rightfully so. If it weren't for a loss at Oregon against the Ducks, Luck would have Stanford in National Title contention. Luck is probably the most complete quarterback, and some have even gone as far to compare him to the great Peyton Manning.

Luck is very important to his team and he is a top candidate to win the Heisman.

Quarterback: Kellen Moore, Boise State

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore comes in fourth on the list because he is in a weaker conference than the others. Granted, Moore has been so important to Boise State just like Newton and Luck but the conference he plays in is a major factor in where he stands for the Heisman Trophy. Moore has put up some big numbers this year throwing for 1,865 yards with 18 touchdowns and two interceptions.

Moore deserves to be in contention for the Heisman Trophy.

Quarterback: Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor has his Buckeyes ranked 11th in the BCS standings and is having an outstanding year. Pryor's ability to throw and run the football makes him a dangerous threat. If it were not for the loss at Wisconsin, Pryor's place in contention for the Heisman Trophy would have been higher. Pryor struggled in that game completing 14-of-28 passes for just 156 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.

The Buckeye quarterback is still a top candidate in the Heisman race.
