College Football Week 10 Preview
I wanted to start off this week’s post with a look at the BCS Top 10. Did you think Oregon and Auburn would be the top two teams? Maybe. Did you think TCU and Boise State would be in the top four? Perhaps. What about Utah in the top Five? No way. Here is a quick look at the top Top 10 and the games of the week:
No. 1 Oregon: Great offense with a play-making defense. Can they finish out the Pac-10 season undefeated?
No. 2 Auburn: Tough road so far, with Alabama waiting in the wings. Cam Newton is the Heisman front runner.
No. 3 TCU: Still “under the radar,” but they feature a VERY good defense.
No. 4 Boise State: Not a great schedule, still not a lot of respect. I wouldn’t want to face them though.
No. 5 Utah: Test of the year this weekend against TCU.
No. 6 Alabama: Still in the race for the BCS Championship. Just win baby—or something.
No. 7 Nebraska: Man, that loss to Texas sure does look really bad now.
No. 8 Oklahoma: A Top 10 team, and that’s about it. They have a chance to win the Big 12 still.
No. 9 Wisconsin: Tough, tough team. They always play well in bowls, and I love their physical style.
No. 10 LSU: We’re still here! Maybe with two more losses coming, but don’t count out crazy Les Miles.
No. 21 Baylor vs. No. 17 Oklahoma State
One of the great stories of the 2010 season is the Baylor Bears. Robert Griffin is a legitimate Heisman contender, and his offense is hard to slow down. Just ask Texas. Baylor beat Texas for the first time in what seemed like 100 years last week and looks to tighten its choke-hold on the Big 12 South this weekend.
The Cowboys had a tough win against feisty Kansas State but get All-American WR Justin Blackmon back from his suspension. Look for a high-scoring game and expect the team that has the ball last to be playing for the win.
My Pick: Oklahoma State 40 Baylor 37
No. 6 Alabama @ No. 10 LSU
Definitely the best matchup of one-loss teams. Alabama is still in the BCS title hunt, but they have to keep winning. LSU has a VERY unlikely chance of winning it all, but the SEC championship is still within reach. Alabama has a wealth of riches at RB but seems to have forgotten how to use it lately. LSU has a punishing defense that will attack and put pressure on Greg McElroy. This will probably end up being a high-scoring game, but I'll take a close slugfest. LSU’s QB problems will continue.
My Pick: Alabama 23 LSU 17
No. 3 TCU @ No. 5 Utah
Game of the week? The year? Hmm, maybe not, but these teams have been dominating opponents so far this season. This has been a good rivalry in the past few years and promises to be entertaining. The TCU defense is GREAT, AMAZING, REALLY GOOD—and whatever else you want to say. They are the No. 1 total defense leader (217 yards allowed per game) and the No. 1 scoring defense (8.67 points per game); those are some unbelievable numbers. Utah comes in with the No. 21 offense in the nation and is third-ranked in scoring. Something will have to give. Look for TCU to dominate on the ground with Andy Dalton making plays through the air. The Utah turnovers will be costly and at the wrong times.
My Pick: TCU 33 Utah 27
Washington @ No. 1 Oregon
This won’t be a game. Remember that time Jake Locker was the potential No. 1 pick in the NFL draft? Well, he is awful...and won’t be playing this week. It will be a long night for the Huskies. LaMichael James and the Ducks' offense might put up 50-plus points. The only thing I want to see will be what uniforms they choose to wear.
My Pick: Oregon 49 Washington 20
Upset Pick of the Week: Purdue 27 Wisconsin 24: No way the Boilermakers can win..right?
Game NOBODY Cares About: Kutztown 35 Bloomsburg 31: BIG D2 showdown on Saturday, but no one cares.
