Fantasy Football Week 9: 10 Waiver Wire Pickups To Save Your Season

Tom KinslowNov 2, 2010

Fantasy football Week 9 is here and if you're like me, you're searching for answers after it all went so horribly wrong.

You drafted well, your team looked great on paper and week in and week out it has disappointed you time and time again. Well, if you're looking for answers, you're only going to find it on the waiver wire and inside are 10 players who can help your lineup down the stretch.

Agree or disagree? Leave it in the comments. If you want any advice on other players, feel free to ask.

No. 10: Willis McGahee

Especially make this move if you're a Ray Rice owner.

McGahee is a touchdown vulture and I'm sure if you owned Rice or are a Ravens fan you know that McGahee gets looks in goal line situations and has taken a couple touchdowns that normally would be Rice's.

Feel free to handcuff them if you own Rice and he's a decent flex play on the right matchup if pick him up solo.

No. 9: Jason Campbell

With the way the Oakland offense has been playing the past two weeks, it's worth it to take a flyer on Jason Campbell.

Campbell has put up consecutive 20 point games as Darren McFadden has helped open up the Raiders' passing game. He's got some tough defenses coming up, but he's worth stashing on your bench and playing him if you have a bye week void that needs to be filed.

I can't believe how well he's played the past two weeks.

No. 8: Troy Smith

Troy Smith stepped in and started for an injured Alex Smith and played well and led the 49ers to a win over the Denver Broncos.

I'd bet that Alex Smith stays on the bench and Smith stays the starter because Mike Singletary is trying to save his job, even though that's likely impossible. As with Jason Campbell, pick him up and use him with good matchups and if you have a quarterback on a bye week.

Also keep in mind that it was the Broncos.

No. 7: Brandon Tate

Brandon Tate is a rookie wideout that the New England Patriots are very high on and last Sunday we saw why.

As Tom Brady scrambled around in trouble, Tate took off down the field and Brady found him wide open and he made one man miss and walked into the end zone. It's not easy to rely on a Patriots wideout, but Tate could make a strong flex play.

Just beware that it could be feast or famine depending on the matchup.

No. 6: LeGarrette Blount

LeGarrette Blount had a rough journey to the NFL and after being cut by the Tennessee Titans at the end of training camp, it all could have ended.

However, Tampa Bay picked up the back and it paid off big time as Blount ripped the Cardinals apart last Sunday, scoring two touchdowns and making an insane play by leaping over a defender and running for 40 more yards.

Blount will get the majority of the touches in Tampa now and I expect him to get a lot of goal line looks.

No. 5: Danny Woodhead

If you're looking for a great flex play, look no further than Danny Woodhead.

Sure, you have to worry about him splitting time with BenJarvis Green-Ellis and having touchdowns taken away from you but with the way that they use him in the running and passing games, it's hard to pass up a player like that.

If he's available, he becomes an instant flex play each week.

No. 4: Danny Amendola

Sam Bradford doesn't have many targets to throw to after Mark Clayton was lost for the year with a knee injury, but Danny Amendola has emerged as one of the rookie quarterback's favorite targets.

Amendola found the end zone on Sunday against Carolina and he'll get plenty of looks from Bradford in the St. Louis offense. There aren't many other viable targets in that offense and it looks like Amendola's the best of the bunch.

He's a good flex play at worst.

No. 3: Lance Moore

8 of 10
NEW ORLEANS - OCTOBER 31: Lance Moore #16 of the New Orleans Saints runs around Bryant McFadden #20 of the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Louisiana Superdome on October 31, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Matthew Sharpe/Getty Images)

It's always risky to take a gamble on a wideout in the New Orleans Saints' offense, but I'm saying it's time to go after Lance Moore.

Moore seems to be establishing himself in the offense and is getting more and more looks from Drew Brees. He's a good flex play that could turn into a starting wideout for your team. If the Saints play like they did last week, he's going to have a strong finish.

It's a gamble that is worth taking.

No. 2: Steve Johnson

9 of 10

Steve Johnson has caught a touchdown or more in the last five games. So why isn't he on your team yet?

Sure, it's the Bills, but he and Ryan Fitzpatrick have a connection and he's going to look for him often in the passing game and with Lee Evans drawing some attention it won't be like Johnson is drawing a constant double team.

You can't ignore his numbers. Add him now.

No. 1: Jacob Tamme

I'm sure after last night there was a fantasy stampede on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jacob Tamme.

Tamme caught a touchdown filling in for Dallas Clark, who was lost for the season with a wrist injury. It just proves that Peyton Manning can make anyone into a great player and you know he's going to get plenty of looks with Manning under center.

If you need a tight end, Tamme is your man.
